Canada Lookup Request / Re: Ada Brice first marriage.
« on: Friday 21 August 15 10:19 BST (UK)  »
Might not Ada Brice and Ada Hilson be the same person?
You said that Ada Brice's mother was a Hilson
Marriage, Sep 1892 Bedford 3b 628
Brice, Joseph
Hilson, Annie

According to the 1901 census, daughter Ada was born circa 1892, but there seems to be no birth registration
So the birth already mentioned in March qtr 1892 St Neots of Ada Eliza E Hilson might suggest that Ada was born before Annie Hilson married Joseph

There was an Ada Hillson born later in 1892 in St Neots district (coincidentally her father was called Joseph?) but that is Ada Alice Hilson who seems to have married in St Neots in 1914

So your Ada could have married using the name she was born with, Hilson, whilst naming her father (or he could have been a stepfather) as Joseph Brice. And there needn't have been any marriage for her as Ada Brice to a Mr Bird!
You could perhaps get the marriage of Ada Hilson to Leonard Bird in 1912, and see what she says on that one.

Is this her death?
March 1971 Bedford 4a 207

Hi
Yes, you are right he came on the Kenya Castle
It says he is Single ("Widowed or divorced to be entered as single")

Address in the United Kingdom - "Shillong" Beach Ave. Barton, Hants
From telephone directories in the fifties, an Edgar E Sharland is listed at that address (tel. New Milton 1078)
Edgar Eaton Sharland died in 1960, there is probate for him. Executors Margaret Mary Sharland, widow and Margaret Ella Sharland, spinster
Do you know who they all are?

Could George Lovegrove have flown back to Africa?
Unless there is a mistake on the passenger list, Victoria either died before August 1957 or they were divorced?

I can't see them returning to the UK?
Only leaving on the Durham Castle (departed 17 May 28)
Country of Intended Future Permanent Residence - S. Africa

which could explain why you can't find them here afterwards

That 1964 death in Reading of George Lovegrove, looks like it's someone else
The local indexes for Reading are online on Berkshire BMD
Deaths in 1964
George Isaac Lovegrove, age 86
and also indexed as Isaac George Lovegrove

Ditto in the GRO death index
Sep 1964, Reading 6a 107
Lovegrove, George I. (age 86)
Lovegrove, Isaac G. (age 86)

Is Ide a misreading of Cole?

Ciderdrinker found the Turners at 91 Clarence Gardens in the 1964 electoral register

So this should be May's death

Electoral register, South West St Pancras 1935
4 Dewsbury Terrace
Turner, Charles James
Turner, May Elizabeth

previous house listed is
3 Dewsbury Terrace
Bowles, Eliza
Bowles, Samuel William

There's only 11 dwellings listed in Deswbury Terrace and hopefully they are living next door to each other. Hoping its not just coincidence. The Bowles were there previously to the Turners arrival, and they left a couple of years later

That's the one!
One John Gepheart seems to make more sense. Perhaps a bit of a philanderer, as Lynn said.

OK I assume Elizabeth is the one who married a James Prince Bateman on 26th June 1853 Christ Church, St Marylebone Father John occ Coal Porter( so same as John in 1851)?
And then as a Widow to Thomas Hocker 15th April 1877 Bayswater Father John occ Porter
Keyboard86

John the Coal Porter said he was 52 in 1851, but in reality was quite a bit older. If he did something similar in 1841, then he would appear as 40 on the census
