Thank you forfarian.

I've had another look.  It says Henry CLEPHANE is a writer to the signet and William SCOTT is a writer.

They are named as Trustees on a will which was written in 1808.

Would anyone know whether there a resource anywhere which has records of Writers?  It doesn't say that Henry CLEPHANE is in Dundee.  I'm curious to know a little more about their background if possible.

Many thanks.

I posted this here originally, but it was moved.

I think it's great that women kept their name - mind you, with life expectancy as it was, they could get through the spouses rather quickly so it was easier to stick with your original name.  I should let my father know that I'm following the Scottish tradition. ;)

Thank you for clarifying about "Mrs".  I didn't think she'd had a prior marriage, but then I thought this could mean she had.

The Lindsay St looks likely in 1871.

Perhaps they never had children.

Thank you Annette.

The intervening years are a bit of a mystery then.  She wasn't very old when she died.

24 Marischal St is where her mother, two sisters, brother-in-law and a niece and nephew are living in the 1871 census.  But not her.

I have very little information about her unfortunately.

I was searching for Lendrums in Peterhead and that's when I found her, and the names could fit with her being Alexander McKINNON and Margaret ARTHUR's daughter.

She isn't at the house of Alexander McKINNON and Margaret ARTHUR in the 1841 census.  Two of their children are staying in Marishel St that night - Andrew is with his grandparents (ARTHUR family) and is a scholar, and Jane is a servant and is next door to the grandparents with the aunt's family (ROBERTSON family).  There is a Margaret McKINNON who is 15 years old (occupation is "F S") at a residence in Marischel St, and there is a John Robertson in the household who is 70.

I haven't found an entry in 1851 yet which would fit.

I didn't know of this possible sibling until I was looking for Lendrums around Peterhead, and she popped up.  My first thought was that they could have had a child that died in infancy, and then I found this marriage.

I see that Plumstead is in Greenwich.

Updated to add:  The marriage information isn't ruling out the possibility that she is one of "ours".    Our Alexander was a Master Mariner.

Thank you.  Now to find out where they went!

I wonder whether anyone here is connected to this couple?  According to London, England, Marriages and Banns both Margaret and Alexander fathers are called Alexander.

I am wondering whether Margaret is the same Margaret Lendrum McKINNON who was born in 1826 in Peterhead, and whether she is the daughter of Alexander McKINNON (sailor) and Margaret ARTHUR.  There is a record on Familysearch for a Margaret Lendrum MacKINNON baptised in 1826 in Peterhead, and the father is Alexander MacKINNON but the mother's name isn't recorded.

I believe Margaret ARTHUR's mother was Margaret LENDRUM (aged 70 in the 1841 census, so born approx 1771) who married Andrew ARTHUR, a tailor in Peterhead.

And, if this is the same person, what was she doing in London in 1860?  If Margaret is a member of this family, there were many sailors in the family.

Many thanks for any information people may be able to offer.

I'm curious about Euphame Johnstone.  I wonder whether she is related to Andrew Johnston/e and Euphame Clephane who are buried in the graveyard in Kilrenny?

Hi Bryan,

I will try to PM you, as we have a connection to this family.
