Just had a quick look at 1837online.com for births 1917, there was no Emily Davis in Lancashire and there was only one Emily Davies that might fit, born ref:
March quarter, Chorlton vol 8c page 1219
mother's maiden surname Grundy -- any good?

If you know her death date, you could get her death cert which should show her age to find her birth year, then go from there.

Checked Durham C.Council online at
www.durham.gov.uk/gro/search.nsf/search?openform

Found 4 marriages for William Lodge:
1863 to Margaret Cummins
1864 to Margaret Rudd
1864 to Margaret Metcalf
1867 to Mary Robson

Certs can be ordered online through the above website
Hope this helps

Thanks for that Gardener.  Will e-mail Dawn and let her know.  Still need to find the 1841 census to be sure though. Going back to an earlier message from you, no, unfortunately not one of my own lines, researching this for my cousin, he'll be absolutely delighted. Wish I could have had some of this luck 15 yrs ago when I started my own family research (pre-internet & Rootschat days!) You mentioned personal messaging me an e-mail address for the person who sent the 1851 census info..?

Have now got 1861 census for Weston-super-Mare, shows Charles V. Hitchins then next door but one :-

Mary Marsden wife 53 b. Devon Exeter
Fanny S Marsden dau 24 b.Newcastle Emlyn Cardiganshire
William D. Marsden son 19 b.  "               "

So this looks as if 'my Fanny Sarah' and the other Fanny Maria Marsden were one and the same.  Hooray!

Hi Sandie,
thanks for the Henry Zipfel death will send for cert, he's probably mine.  As for Charles age 73, I have a Charles 60 on 1841 census, (could be his age was rounded down), with wife Editha 55, daughters Emily & Louisa. He was a clockmaker and birthplace just "not from the county".  Was this one a clockmaker?
Thanks a lot, Ecneps

Family History Beginners Board / Another way to use I.G.I.website

If you've never tried using IGI website by county & parish why not check it out,  go to :-http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle

This gives you IGI batch numbers by county, click on the county, then the town, then  either on C numbers for christenings or M nos. for marriages (years & churches given), then enter surname at top - gives you all of that surname for that church, click on names to find parents - easy way to find whole families.  (not all places covered)
