Leicestershire / dorothy Smith B: 1837 Ibstock, Leics
« on: Friday 30 September 11 15:16 BST (UK)  »
Dorothy's parents were Joseph Smith and, I believe, Dorothy, although I can find no records of her mother at all other that a Joseph and Dorothy having a son Thomas in 1833 (which does fit in roughly with the family in the 1841 census.) and her father only on the census returns.
Dorothy appears to have been adopted by the Haynes family and lived in Leicester. She married Thomas pick of Scalford, they appear to have moved around rather a lot to Ibstock, Scalford and Leicester.
The couple appear to have separated in between 1875 and 1881.
I am looking for information on the whereabouts of their son Albert B: 1875/6 in Ibstock in 1891 and any information on Dorothy's parents such as BMD
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.

Leicestershire / Re: marine dealer

Oooooh, that's interesting. I am currently writing up my MIL's life story and family tree and have come across her Gt. Grandfather who was a Marine Store Dealer and I wondered what it was as his ancestors were mainly agricultural labourers with the odd tailor, school ma'am and police sergeant thrown in.

Will have to go off and google the term in a bit. I know I'm decended from irish gypsies (horse dealers and fairground) on my paternal line but it would be a bit weird if OH's family were also decended from gypies
