Hi LEAHGR,
I also meant to say that unfortunately I don't have any photos of the PARK family, but would be very interested in photos you have of headstones.

Roxburghshire / PARK/TAIT/KING

Mather Park (mygggggrandmother) b.15/10/1773 Ewes, Dumfrieshire, Sct to parents James Park and Margaret Tait.  James & Margaret were married 8/11/1770 Hawick, Roxburghshire.
I have been unable to find any other children born to James Park and Margaret Tait, nor have I found James and Margaret's births.
I am wondering whether either James or Margaret may have died after the birth of Mather, and one of them remarried.  Or maybe they moved to a completely different area and had more children.
Possibly they moved back to Hawick as there were a lot of PARK and KING families living in that area.
I'm stuck, so any help would be appreciated.

Hi,  I have discovered in the last few weeks that the Park names I mentioned in my previous emails are incorrect!!!
Here is the correct info.
Mather Park (mygggggrandmother) b.15/10/1773 Ewes, Dumfrieshire, Sct to parents James Park and Margaret Tait.  James & Margaret were married 8/11/1770 Hawick.
I have been unable to find any other children born to James Park and Margaret Tait, nor have I found James and Margaret's births.
I can help with your William Park and Agnes Scott as I was researching this particular line, thinking that it was connected to mine.  It still may be, but there is no connection now, other than Elizabeth Rutherford marrying an Armstrong.
I will post another message under the subject PARK/TAIT to hopefully attract more responses.

Received copy of marriage certificate today, which has given me a couple more clues.  It seems that Matthew Byrne was a widower when he married Frances Jordan, hence I now believe that his first son John was born to his first wife, since John was born about 5 years before Matthew Byrne and Frances Jordan married.
I now need to find out who Matthew's first wife was.  Where should I be looking?

I have an Application for Marriage Certificate form.  On the form it asks for PPS Number (if known).  Excuse my ignorance, but what is a PPS number?

Full Civil records started in 1864, so this marriage should have been included. You can search an index to this at : Familysearch Irish Civil Index

Full research certs can be ordered from the GRO - http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

These will show more details than the parish record. such as father's names, occupation, place of residence of the bride & groom etc..

edit - found a possible cross match for the marriage in the index :

 Name: Frances Jordan
 Registration district: Enniscorthy
 Record type: Marriage
 year: 1874
 Volume: 19 / Page: 290

 Name: Matthew Byrne
 [same index details]

Thanks for the suggestions.  I guess I won't have any answers until I purchase the marriage certificate to see if there is any further information on it.
When I visited Wexford in 2003 I was told that Irish families tended to stick to their own areas, and that there would most certainly be living descendants in the same areas today.  However, back then I was not in possession of any particular areas to search, and it wasn't until I got back to Australia and received the parish records via the Wexford Genealogy Centre, that I was able to pinpoint one or two areas.
So it's been a long process, and I'll continue in my search for further information.

I already know Matthew's parents' names (Andrew BYRNE and Margaret NEILL), and where Matthew and Francis JORDAN were living when they got married.  If I applied for the marriage certificate, I may not get any further information than what I already have.  Francis' father's name may not be on the marriage certificate, so I'm not sure whether it would be worth purchasing this certificate which is why I haven't done it in the past.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for that.  Found Slievengrane on the map, and I guess this could be translated from bad handwriting as Slinegrawn.  It's in the same vicinity as Oulart so it's a good possibility.

The older cemetery could be the one to start looking in, although the family could have moved anywhere - as Matthew BYRNE migrated to Australia.
