Northumberland Lookup Requests / 1861 and 1871 Wilson - Bishopwearmouth
« on: Sunday 08 May 05 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

Am wondering if anyone has the the 61 and 71 census for Bishopwearmouth.  I have John Wilson and Ann (?) living in 4 Gibsons Alms Houses, Bishopwearmouth in 1881 and am wondering where they were before.  They are possibly my ggp's and had a son John Wilson in 1852c. John Snr was a master mariner in 1881 as was his son John.

Thanks

Durham / Rowe? whats your thoughts?
« on: Wednesday 27 April 05 11:51 BST (UK)  »
Wondering what you folk make of the following information -

1881
John Winnard/M/32/head/ Living in Trimdon, Durham
Mary Jane Winnard/M/31/wife
Edward Rowe/son in law/8
John Winnard /son/4
Alice Winnard /daughter/3
Martha Winnard/ daughter/1

Then we have the marriage cert - Parish of Wingate, Easington
John Winnard/36/Widower/father John Winnard
m
Mary Jane Rowe/32/Spinster/father Edward Rowe ???

Then we have the birth cert of my grandmother -
Emily Winnard 31-10-1896/father John Winnard/mother Mary Jane formerly Morris.  Also a son whom they called Hugh Morris Winnard.

My questions then are, what to believe?
Both ggrandparents were illiterate so maybe they were not aware of what was written? Also there are some differences as to when Mary Jane was born or where she was born so I think it would be a rather difficult task to find her properly.

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

The Lighter Side / Re: Mom I have to research the family
« on: Saturday 23 April 05 06:53 BST (UK)  »
Wish the schools had done this when I was there!  Tis a good way to find out about history as it puts a more personal perspective on things.

However in response to the kids of today doing a tree, my next door neighbours grandson had to do so last year (he is 7 I think).  Poor devil only ended up with a type of "ground cover"  :-\

He is the result of a 2nd marriage for his father and a 3rd relationship for his mother.   His maternal grandmother has been married twice so had his her 2nd husband.  Between them they have 10 children and most of them have been in more than one relationship or another.  Then to cap it off his maternal grandmother was adopted!!!!

So I guess his generation has plenty of searching to do to secure their ancestory ::)

The Common Room / Re: Reasons for lying about age?

Hi Debbie,

Just a thought,  have you worked back the dates for the births of Amelias children to see if that helps the jigsaw fit any better?

Hi Debbie,

If Amelia was born 19 Aug 1888 she would of been 2.5 in the 1891 census and two weeks short of her 19th birthday when she got married.  Does that fit better with the time line for you?  How old was she when she died?
