Tipperary / Re: Shea / Cody Carrick On Suir Tipp
« on: Monday 15 August 11 20:32 BST (UK)  »
Looks like thats the one, just viewed the marriage details, names match and address conincides with that found on the census.. great.

So now I have the name of Michaels father; Patrick Shea and Marys father; Nicholas 'Coady' (another new surname spelling!).  Their mothers details appear to be incorrect - looks like the name of the church and priest as opposed to mothers names.

Would you suggest I now go back to the census to get more info on these new ancestors?

Tipperary / Shea / Cody Carrick On Suir Tipp - MORE INFO
« on: Monday 15 August 11 17:46 BST (UK)  »
Have obtained the marriage certificate of my g grandfather James O'Shea (Shea on his birth certificate) and g grandmother Annie O'Shea nee O'Shea (who also appears as Shea on 1901 census).  They were married in St Nicoholas Church Carrick On Suir Tipperary on the 14th Feb 1915.

From this I managed to get Annie's birth certificate and now have her mothers maiden name; Mary 'Cody'.

Am a bit at a loss how to go back any further.  I have Annies parents estimated ages from the 1901 and 1911 census' and know that her father was Michael Shea and her mother Mary Shea nee Cody.  I am presuming that Annie's parents marriage cert would be a good start, but having difficulty finding it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the help its great.  Carole, I had the 1841 census (the markings on the census suggested that Edward was not from the same place he was residing in - unless I am reading the census incorrectly?)  The 1851 census I had was the wrong one - similar names.  Didn't help that it was listed as 'GIBBS' and not 'GIBBS'.  Like I say, my mistake, but all your help has cleared that up.

They had seven children (whose names and dates of biths I have from 1851 census)

Drawn a bit of a blank.

The basis for all this info is family members who would have been in their teens at the time.  Have learnt (the hard way) that memories aren't always correct.

The story goes that James had moved to London for a while in his teens, but rushed back to Somerset when he thought his mother was trying to poison his father!!  He never returned to London..  Living family members knew that he had died 'young', but it is possible that their definition of young was incorrect?

Think I will have to purchase some certs to tie this up one way or another.

Thank you so much, that all seems to make sense, now just need to work out if they are the ones I am definatley looking for!!

James O'Shea would have been born in Carrick on Suir Tipperary Ireland and I have found a birth index for a James Shea b.1922 (which tallies with his death.)

Somerset Lookup Requests / James O'SHEA / Patrick O'SHEA - need help
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
I haven't rally got alot of info to go out on..

Looking for a James O'Shea, he would have been born in Ireland but ended his life in Somerset.  James was born sometime around 1919 and would have died at some point in the 60's(ish).

He had a son called Patrick (Paddy) O'Shea (I'm assuming born in Somerset), Patrick died within 2 or years of his father in somerset.

Any suggestions on the best way to start with this, or even better, does this ring any bells with anyone?
