Cumberland / Re: William Bowman 1781-1843, Cockermouth, Cumberland
« on: Sunday 25 October 20 12:44 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you. I have not been able to locate the 1941 census. I have seen the one of William & rachel & did wonder if its a second marriage?? The son William is listed as being 20yrs, this would correspond to my William who had a son William who was baptised in All Saints Church, Cockermouth on 19.07.1819. There was a further son George baptised 07.01.1821.
the 1841 census also lists Mary 16yrs & Sarah 1yr, i currently do not have either of these in my records.
His death in 1843 may not be correct as William is a common name.
I have struggled to find any of William's children on 1841 census, but they all re-appear in 1851
Thank you for your help
Kind regards
Carole

Cumberland / William Bowman 1781-1843, Cockermouth, Cumberland

I am researching William Bowman who was born & died in the Cockermouth area. I have been able to tack his children, his siblings & parents but have been unable to locate information on his wife Margaret. I believe they were married in Cockermouth about 1801. Their 1st child also called Margaret was born in Cockermouth & baptised on 12 September 1802.

Any information relating to their marriage, & her surname would be gratly appreciated
Thank you

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Joseph Young & Elizabeth, Hampshire

I am trying to locate inforation on the parents of Rebecca Young. She was baptised on 1st June 1777 in Titchfield, Hampshire. Her parents are recorded as Joseph Young & Elizabeth, but I have been unable to find out more about them. I have located a marriage on 23 Oct 1768 in Droxford between a Joseph Young & Elizabeth Strugnel - is this the same Joseph & Elizabeth?. I have been unable to identify Josephs birth or baptism or any information on his parents or siblings.
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you

I am also descended from Elizabeth Graham Swan & Edward Spencer through their daughter Ethel. I have Richard Eglesfield Spencer in my tree. It would be lovely to compare notes

Thank you. I have found the following records:

1. Edinburgh - Roll of Burgesses: Gilchryst, Archd., B., mt. (muskit), by r. of w. Margaret, dr. to George Ramsay, mt., B. 13 Jan 1641

2. Edinburgh - Register of Marriages, 1595:  Gilchrison (Gilchriston, Gilchryson, Gillchryson) Archibald, merchant; Margaret Ramsay 30 Sep 1640

The family are known as Gilchrist /Gilchryst rather than Gilchrison in subsequent generations. I am unsure what the abbreviations in record 1 mean or whether they relate to the same people but there is a 4 month difference in dates.
 Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you
Carole

Thank you for responding so quickly. I have traced back to Archibald & Margaret via their son John/Johne & his brother Archibald but have hit a brick wall with Margaret.  Margaret Ramsay appears to be a common name in Edinburgh at that time so I am not sure how to proceed, would her marriage records give her age at birth? Fathers details? witnesses? I have looked at a few trees on ancestry but I think they are wrong, there is no evidence that the connections they have made are correct
Kind regards
Carole
