Leicestershire / Re: family of Alfred BLACK & Harriett Elizabeth THOMPSON
« on: Sunday 15 January 17 03:53 GMT (UK)  »
HI Artypie,

Thank you for your post.

Alfred BLACK (1882-1931) and his children are my relatives.
I believe his :
wife Mary Ann CULLEN was born 1877 and died 1921.

Son Alfred BLACK born 1905 died 1978 married 1929
Constance Flora HOLMES born 1905 died 1967
they seem to have had 3 children and divorced.

The eldest child (1931-2005) seems to have married 3 times and had 7 children,

Can you confirm ?

Cheers

Leicestershire / family of Alfred BLACK & Harriett Elizabeth THOMPSON
« on: Tuesday 10 January 17 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to find descendants of
Alfred BLACK & Harriet Elizabeth THOMPSON who married in the March Qtr 1881.

Currently I know of 5 children born at Loughborough, LEI
( There may have been others who were born & died between Census. )
Note also that the family were likely Baptists.
Those I find in Census records are :
Alfred BLACK                 born Mar qtr.1882 m. Mary Ann CULLEN
John Henry BLACK          born            1883 m. Fanny TAYLOR at Sherness, Kent
Albert BLACK                 born Mar qtr 1887
Harriett Elizabeth BLACK born Jun qtr 1888 m. Augustus Frederic STANILAND & Samuel HENSON
Ernest Arthur BLACK       born Jun qtr 1890 m. Emma Jane MARSTON

I suspect there was a child born between John Henry & Albert and after Ernest Arthur.
( Should have checked the Dove index when it came online.. sigh. )

I also have some of grandchildren from census records.

Can anyone help please.

Hi George & Andrea,

WOW!! What a Christmas Gift!!

Because a lot of our future exchanges will include non-Leicestershire date; perhaps we 3 should write to each other using our direct emails. Mine is gentryleishman@gmail.com

I have Robert's parents as William RIDER & Mary with no siblings confirmed.

Looking forward to learning more; but must now clear snow from the driveway.

Hi,

An update.. Ooops!

The St Mary's PR shows the baptism of William SMITH s/o William & Anne on 10 Jan 1808.
And a possible matching marriage for William junior to Mary FISHER on 18 Feb 1827 both FWKers.
One child Ebenezer in 1828 who died in 1830

Mary also died in 1830 and William then married Elizabeth MARSHALL on 23 Sep 1833.
Elizabeth was also a FWK and they had 2 children Martha & Charles.

Mary FISHER was likely the d/o Thomas FISHER & Ann HARDY

The 1838 death cert informant :
Catherine FISHER nee PRESTON was the wife of John FISHER.
John being a brother of the Thomas FISHER who married Ann HARDY.

Hi Ian etc.,

Thought I would try to help.

The William SMITH baptized at Sileby in 1782 was the s/o Samuel & Ruth.
The William SMITH baptized at Sileby in 1784 was the s/o John & Martha.

William SMITH & Elizabeth (DENNIS) had a daughter Ruth bapt 5 Feb 1812 buried 18 Feb 1812.
These from the PR of St. Mary's, Sileby so Church of England.
They also had a son Samuel in 1808.

I do not see any children of William & Ann SMITH  baptized at St. Mary's, Sileby.

So it looks to me as though William & Elizabeth SMITH settled in Sileby and attended St. Mary's.

Perhaps you can show that William & Ann SMITH settled elsewhere and were not C of E.

Hope this Helps.

Cheers

Merry Christmas everyone,

I have been trying to determine the maiden surname of Widow Mary LACEY who married Thomas BROUGHTON in 1796.

I am now sure that Mary was Mary PRESSON/PRESTON baptized Sileby 16 Jan 1774.
The daughter of John & Ann (HUDSON?).

Mary married William LACEY/LACY at Sileby on 31 Oct 1791.
They had a son William bapt. 12 Feb 1792.
And a William LACY was buried at Sileby on 2 June 1792
I do not have a full transcript of this burial and it could be either father or son.
There do not seem to be any other children baptized at St Mary's, Sileby

Hope this helps.

Hi Geoff et al,

I am a descendant of John MARTIN & Catherine PALMER who appear next the the family of Thomas & Hannah BRADLEY in 1841. Catherine died in 1845 and John remarried to Mary Anne PORTER in 1847.

In the mid 1800s there seem to be 3 different MARTIN families in Sileby; who were joined by another soon after. Sorting them out is made more difficult because they were not all Church of England and not consistently methodist or baptist.

At this time I do not believe Hannah BRADLEY nee MARTIN is one of my relatives.

The burial of Hannah BRADLEY age 88 on 25 Jan 1897 is consistent with the baptism of Hannah MARTIN d/o John & Elizabeth on 6 Mar 1809.

John MARTIN labourer of Quorndon married Elizabeth PRESTON of Sileby at Sileby on 10 Aug 1801.
Their son John baptized Sileby on 31 Aug 1803 married Elizabeth STEPHENSON on 24 Nov 1824 at Sileby.
Their son James baptized 1 Dec 1801 was buried age 25 on 19 Jun 1827.
Their daughter Lydia was baptized 26 Aug 1812 and buried 8 Dec 1812.
Their son Joel was baptized 10 Jan 1821 is not buried at Sileby nor did he marry there.

Worth checking the Quorndon PR, which I think are online, because the family may have moved back & forth.

Cheers
