The Scottish Genealogy Society's next talk – The History of the Union Canal by Graeme Cruickshank - will take place on Monday 17 April at 7.30pm at the Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh. This talk is free to members and non-members can attend for a small donation. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be served afterwards.

The Scottish Genealogy Society is currently putting together its new programme of family history classes. The first of these will be held on Saturday 4 March, starting at 10am: “Beginners in Scottish Family History” with Ken Nisbet. This workshop will be held at our library at 15 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh.
 
The second class we have is “Starting out With Irish Research” with Jill Williams on 25 March at 14.30. This class will be conducted via Zoom.

The next meeting on the SGS Syllabus is on Monday, 20 March, and is a talk by Ann Kerrigan of the Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society: “People of Cammo”. As usual the meeting will be held at the Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, starting at 7.30pm. Non-members are welcome to come along for a small donation. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be served afterwards.

The Scottish Genealogy Society will again open on Saturdays, starting from 4 February. Our library at 15 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh will be open 10am-2pm. All visitors welcome.

The Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Genealogy Society will be held on Monday, 20th February 2023 at 7.00pm at the Augustine United Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EL. The AGM will be followed by a talk by Lord Lyon King of Arms, Dr Joseph Morrow titled "Scotland's Farewell to Queen Elizabeth"

Attendees will be required to sign in. Guests are welcome and will be charged a small fee. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be served afterwards.

The Scottish Genealogy Society is pleased to announce the recommencement of our family history classes. The dates are all Sundays from 19.00 to 21.00 and will be conducted via ZOOM:

21 November:   Ken Nisbet will take a class for Beginners in Scottish Family History

5 December:     Jill Williams will host an Introductory class on Family History using Irish Records

12 December:   Ken Nisbet will explain how to access and use the Scottish Old Parish Registers (OPRs) and Kirk Session records

At long last, the SGS is pleased to announce that our ordinary meetings have resumed! The next meeting on our Syllabus will be: The Edinburgh Men Who Founded the World's First Football Club in 1824, by Andy Mitchell on Monday 22 November 2021 at 7.30pm. As usual, the meeting will be held in the Augustine United Church, 41 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1EL. Attendees will be required to sign in and to wear a face-mask. Seats will be well spaced in pairs or singly. No refreshments will be served. I should also mention for those who usually travel to our meetings in their cars that George IV Bridge has had the bollards and cycle lanes removed and it is possible to park there as previously. Please check our website before travelling in case changes have had to be made in line with any new restrictions ordered by the Government. https://www.scotsgenealogy.com
