It can be found in the Birmingham marriages in ancestry too 
that’s where I found his fathers name and occupation.

Hi
I’m hoping for some help in locating the family of Henry Butler born abt 1845 in Birmingham. He married Mary Ann Farley in 1874 in Birmingham, they had 5 children.
I haven’t been able to find this family pre the 1881 census, which is where I located the children’s names. Henry gives Joseph Butler, Labourer as his father but I haven’t been able to locate him or a birth for Henry. There are 3 possibilities but I’d like to narrow it down before I start paying for certificates. Hence why I was hoping to find them in a census before 1881.
Hopefully someone can help!

Thank you everyone, did you happen to come across a birth for James?
I found one Edwin Bill who was buried in 1850 aged 23, I assume it’s the wrong one, apart from the age being wrong, James Bills was born in abt 1855…

Yes that’s the census. I’m probably answering my own question but there is also this family, however he isn’t a James
