Hi Graceland

Thanks for replying.  I am very confused!

The marriage certificate says that the residence at time of marriage was Barton Street Amberley.  It would appear that they both lived there, unless it means he was living in Barton Street and she Amberley.  Though this seems a bit odd as the rest of my g.g. grandfather's family lived in Amberley.  I have yet to find out if there was a Barton st in Amberley in 1866.  Why would they have got married in a church near the city centre and not in their local church?

Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks again,

Nicola

Hi All

I am wondering if anyone can help me identify where exactly in Gloucestershire my g.g. grandfather got married.  I have his marriage certificate from 1866 and it states the marriage took place at

St James' Church
in the district (parish written underneath) of 'St James'  and what looks like  ' near the lily bush' ??!!

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Swindon - Newport Street Coffee Palace

Hi

Hope someone can help!  I have just found my g.g. grandfather, Albert Milner and two of his daughters on the 1891 census for Swindon.  Totally confused as to why he is there as his wife and the rest of the children are at their home address in Stroud.  However, what I am wondering is if anyone can help explain their address.

It is  Newport Street Coffee Palace.  Albert is down as a Farmer, coffee palace keeper and one of his daughters as lodge assistant.

Does anyone know what a coffee palace was and/or what a coffee palace keeper would have done?

This is a new one on me, so any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Nicola

Hi Rambler

Thanks for this information.  Haven't had much time today to think it though, but could be the one. I will post again in the next few days if I can link it up.

Gloucestershire / Milliner - Gardner family - marriage help needed!
« on: Friday 03 March 06 10:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Wondering if anyone can help me  . . please . . . am really stuck for ideas!!

I have been looking for ages for the marriage of

Albert Issac Milliner to Annie Gardner.  ( I believe that Gardner is her first married name and that she was born Wright).

Based on children from her first marriage and the fact that they are married in the 1871 census , I am guessing they should have married between 1864 - 1871.  In 1871 they were living in Littleworth were his family lived.  Interestingly, they have a daughter aged 4 (in 1871) born in Avening  - not sure but assume she is Albert's daughter.

I have tried Free BMD and 1837online, but no success!

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Nicola

Hi

I too am tracing Milliners, but mine are the mainly from Amberley area.  However, I have been in contact with someone in the USA who is tracing a Issac Milliner born about 1800, she didn't know his wifes name last time I heard but did have son by the name of William born early 1820's.  I will send her your post as I am not sure if she has ever used this site.  It may help!
