Australia / William Bartlett BURT
« on: Friday 04 May 12 10:01 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the whereabouts of William Bartlett Burt and his wife Maria Teresa Furber. They married in Maiden Newton, Dorset, England in 1842 after which I can find no trace of them.

The IHR NSW has an online land record index listing a William Bartlett Burt with one entry with a Title deed in 1853.  I suspect this could be the person I am looking for.   An old internet post suggests that they went to Sydney and that Maria was a school teacher.  If this was the case it would explain why I have been unable to trace them in the UK.

Any help to confirm this family would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure whether you will still be looking but I have James Wadham Furber on my tree.  He was the son of James Stickland Furber and Harriet Amy Wadham who married in Bermondsey, London 16 Jan 1844. James Stickland Furber, born 1822 in Winterborne Anderson, was the son of James Furber listed in this post in 1841 age 60, agriculturalist with his wife Mary Stickland.

James Stickland Furber was a Master Mariner who died in Cape Town, SA in 1862.

Many Thanks for the responses especially the index.  I shall look into ordering the certificate.

I don't have the names of all their children but from the 1911 census they had 11, of whom one was born in England.  I'm not sure whether Hugh was the second son as he was born c1898.

Yes, that is the right one.  I'm not sure how to get Irish certificates though.  I would guess the marriage would have been in Donegal or Londonderry.

Donegal / Bradley

I have little information to go on but am looking for connections to a Bradley family living near Convoy, Donegal.
The family were Flax farmers. The only name we have is Peter Bradley from the 1940s.  He had a daughter who worked in the local Post Office, married and then moved to the Birmingham area.

Peter Bradley was a cousin of Margaret Bradley born c1863 in Co. Donegal.

Not much to go on but if anything sounds familiar then this would be most helpful.

I came across a similar entry on ancestry with a christening in Maiden Newton in 1742 also listed in Gillingham.  When looking at the Gillingham page it said 'Christenings in Maiden Newton'.  Not sure why Gillingham but this looks like a copy of the Maiden Newton entries also listed with the genuine Gillingham ones.  I suspect an ancestry issue.

Thanks for your prompt responses.  It is very helpful to know where to look for the war diary details, I am not expecting individual mentions but just to follow the units progress would be most interesting especially as I didn't think I would be able to identify his unit.

Is there a program for digitising the WW1 war diaries or is it ad-hoc?

Thanks for your responses and for moving the post to the World War One Forum where I meant to post it initially!

Thanks Ady, it looks like they were part of the 60th Division on the Egyptian Expeditionary Force.  Is it possible to follow this up in greater detail and also to trace where they were before this?
