Lancashire Lookup Requests / Thomas Devine death
« on: Sunday 02 February 14 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find the death of my gg grandfather, Thomas Devine, born 1839, Salford, Lancs, I have his birth certificate and have him in the 1841 to 1881 census, he was a Bricklayer by trade and his wife was Mary Ann Kennedy, although he was never with her in any of the census, they had two children Rosannah and John. I think I have just found him in the 1891 census as an inmate in Strangeways prison although on the index it says he is 25, on the image it looks more like 55, but his occupation is still the same, in 1901 I think I have him in the Salford District Union Workhouse, listed as a Retired Bricklayer but age 71, trouble is I cannot find a death that fits in with him, the only ones I have found that seem to fit are one in 1881, aged 41, but this is not him and one in 1904 in Chorlton, but after sending for certificate this was also not mine, any one help find him in the index to enable me to get the correct certificate?, best wishes, Jean

Hi, thank you for all your replies, Adelaide married John McErdle on 3rd Oct 1863, he dies in 1864 and then she lives with a Richard Hannah, who dies in 1877, I cannot find a marriage to Richard but when she died in 1903 she was listed as Adelaide Hannah.
On the marriage certificate William's name is definitely Douby, a Soldier, all I could think was that he was over here from another country, would that be likely in 1856?,
best wishes, Jean

England / William Douby- Soldier

Hi, I'm looking for any information on a William Douby, (could be spelt wrong). I have a marriage certificate for a Mary Johnson dated 10th July 1876 to a James Moores, she is listed as a spinster, but her father is listed as William Douby, a Soldier, I have Mary's baptism at Manchester Cathedral in 1857, where she is listed as the daughter of Victoria Adelaide Johnson, now I have come across Marriage certificates when fathers were made up, but surely she would have given him the same surname as herself, if this was the case. I have looked through census records and can't seem to find any William Douby's spelt like this, can anyone  shed any light on this?, any help would be greatly appreciated, Jean

Hi, thanks for the reply, I know my Bailey family moved around, he was born in Kirby Stephen, Westmorland, but he was a Gamekeeper, so moved around a lot, my Gran always said he worked for Lord Halifax and I have him working at the Hickleton estate in 1901, then at Kirby Under Dale, York, in 1911, it has taken me a long time to find his death, as you can imagine with a name like Bailey. Best wishes, Jean

Hi, can anyone help me find the burial place of my great Uncle, John Bailey, who died 26th Sept 1944 at Bolton Cottage, Bessacarr and his wife, Alice?, I recently visited Rose Hill Cemetery, in Cantley and was told they were not buried there and the likely place would be St Wilfrids Church, has anyone got records for there, or knows where they would be held for this year?, would appreciate any help, best wishes, Jean
