Without the whole of the inscription it is a little difficult to try and trace what it may have come from.

What does it start with?  Do you have a picture of the inscription or can you tell us where this can be found?

It comes from the grave of Reginald Fairfax Wells and his second wife Reska Fairfax Wells. The inscription is between the two names/dates. I have provided all the inscription but two words are not readable. I wonder if anyone had come across this same inscription before. It is in Littlehampton, Sussex. The picture is not very good but the only one possible.

If she didn't remarry or move there isn't much likely hood of her popping up until her death , also her date of birth is a bit suspect by quite a few years, I can't find a birth either although you don't want that info

Louisa Maud

I have noted the birth date, does change a great deal.I have never seen a birth certificate and I have searched. At the time of marriage she lived in Fulham and her only parent a Doctor, was dead. He had connections with Devon.

Just now I have found a birth date 15/6/1870 Beaminster, Devon. Address in Fulham 89C Fulham Park Gardens.

What was her father’s first name?

Dr Frank Rawlings

Looking into Mrs Carissima Wells, in later life she added Rawlings her maiden name as her middle name, 1872-1962. After the divorce from Reginald Fairfax Wells, about 1937 she lived in Blackheath and then Tudor Lodge, Crofton Road Orpington. Described as the Farnborough end of Crofton Road. I can find no mention of her until her death in 1962, when she was still living in the same house.

I wonder if anyone has come across Carissima Wells, who never remarried in your research. The family can not help. Grateful for for assistance please? Thx.

Ate you just looking for the gap between 1939 and 1962. Other than Electoral Registers, there may be nothing else recorded. She might have led a very quiet life during that time.

Yes basically 1939-1962. I am in touch with the relations of the children, but they are not aware. Thank you.

Two possible passenger seating/engine mounting configurations that could allow a passenger's hand to come into contact with the propeller:

Passenger sat behind the pilot and the engine mounted above the top wing with the propeller behind the engine 'pushing' the plane forward.

Passenger sat in front of the pilot and the engine mounted above the top wing with the propeller in front of the engine 'pulling' the plane along.

With thanks

I can visualise both configurations but I can't remember the names of the planes.

Yes in a pusher design the propeller is at the back.

She would have to lean a long way back, for her hand to come in contact though!

Reading the report, I don't understand how a passenger sitting behind the propeller would get such an injury. More likely when she "cranked" the propeller-as that sort of injury was common. Evidence given in court may not have been true of course

Perhaps the aircraft was of "pusher" design, with the propeller behind the engine. Possibly a Farman - like this one pictured at Hendon in 1913:

So would the prop, be behind the passenger seat at the rear? In court she says, she turned to wave at the crowds and two fingers made contact with the prop.
