Dublin / Re: Baptism for same person at both COI AND RC

Thank you Shane.  I remember your help and suggestions when I first started with this.  Since that time I obtained the death certificate for John - but not really close to finding birth information.  If I assume they followed the naming patterns, I assume his mother's name is Elizabeth, however I don't know for sure. I have limited information about my 2nd ggf and ggm.  I do know she remarried after his death in 1900. As you pointed out, neither of the certificates give the birth, only age at time of death.

Thank you anclare.  I did not see that entry. Thanks also for telling me what the note said - I could not decipher it when I looked at it.

thanks, Shane --

I have a copy of the marr cert - 30 Sep 1871 - married at the Registrars Office - according to the provisions of the Act of Victoria Chap 81 (I think).  The groom lived at 45 Bolton St, Parish of Mary, city of Dublin; the bride lived at 1 Frederick Court (cant read the rest), Parish of George, City of Dublin.  Father of groom, William, was a carter; father of ride, Thomas, was a weaver.

So wuld this mean its a mixed marriage?

Thanks again,
kate

thanks, shane.  perhaps it is the father who was COI - all the children were married in RC churches in Liverpool.  I am still trying to unravel the lineage of the parents, John Patterson and Mary Gaynor.

appreciate your time!

Dublin / Baptism for same person at both COI AND RC
« on: Monday 25 March 13 21:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Why would a family baptize their children at both COI and RC churches?  My 2nd great-grandparents were living in Dublin at least from 1871, when they married.  They had 6 children, five born and baptized in Dublin.  One of the children born in Ireland died shortly after baptism.  Three of the children were baptized at St. Mary (COI) as well as St. Michan (RC).  I could only find a COI baptism for the William and only a RC for Catherine Agnes.  I know they are these are all same children - addresses and parents are the same.

Mary Ellen Patterson  1872-1912  COI & RC
Elizabeth Patterson  1873-1959  COI & RC
William Thomas Patterson  1875- ?      COI
Agnes Patterson   1877-1877  COI & RC
Catherine Agnes Patterson 1879-1970  RC only

The last child, John was born in Liverpool.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you aghadowey.  I would be happy just find the marriage but at least I have his birth and baptism. Just wanted to fill in the past.  I guess to find anything more I will have to wait for the next census which I understand is not available for several more years.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks aghadowey and rosemaryjoan for your quick responses and help.

I have the census and the information the relative has given has had many holes in it. My interest is in finding his marriage and birth of his children if possible. I have tried civil registration indices and ancestry Ireland which is where I found the baptism information but have not had any success finding his marriage.

Again, thanks and have a good day.

Down / William Carroll
« on: Thursday 01 November 12 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for William Carroll, born in Ballymacarrett, County Down.

Church record has him born 17 Apr 1898 and baptized 18 Apr 1898.  Civil registration records dob as 24 Apr 1898.  I know that he married and had three children - William, Maureen and I think Albert.  It's possible the name of the wife is Amelia, but not sure.  Maureen emigrated to the US.

I am trying to find his marriage and information about his children.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dublin / Re: John Patterson/Mary Gaynor - family look-up please

Hi,

I have a copy of the marriage certificate b/w Elizabeth and James as well as the Liverpool Record Office RC Marriage Register entry.  In addition to Elizabeth and James, I see a reference to Patterson(wid.Gaynor) and Robert Dillion.  So I checked the same RC marriage register and found a marriage b/w Mary Patterson  (daughter of Thomas Gaynor) and Robert Dillon (son of John Dillion) in Oct of 1904 - winesses last names appear to be Edington and Crowley.

Hi again,

John Patterson is my GGF - I am related by way of his daughter Elizabeth.  You see her on the 1891 census as Elizabeth Moore, married to James Moore - mis-transcribed as Juliet.

John Patterson and Mary Gaynor married 30 September 1871.  Marriage solemnized at Parish Registrars Office, City of Dublin, District of Dublin North.  Father of groom: William Patterson, occupation - Carter; father of bride: Thomas Gaynor, occupation - Weaver.  Both parents were living at the time of the marriage. Witnesses were William Jenkins and Mary Carey.

I look forward to sharing more.
