Just thought you would like to know Edward Endacott Mudge is definitely the man you are after.
I am a descendant of edward and Susannahs daughter Mary Ann Doney Mudge.
Edward Endacott was born Sept 10 1799 in Chagford, he was the illegitimate Son of Thomazine Mudge and William Endacott,
I have a copy of the Bastard Court hearing (their words not mine) on Nov 03 1800 in Chagford. I think William Endacott was born in 1766 in Chagford but have not confirmed that yet. No other details on Thomazine as yet.
Edward was baptised on Oct 06 1799 in Chagford. From what I can work out he was brought up in the poor house in Chagford where William and Thomazine both had to pay weekly amounts towards his up keep. He was apprenticed out to Alexander Holmes (a local farmer in Chagford) until he was 21.
He then worked in North Bovey for a John Coldridge for a few years from about 1820, during that time he himself was placed in Bridwell prison for getting a girl pregnant, his master John Coldridge had to bail him out, I have no details on that child.
He married Susannah Bolt (her maiden name was Doney, she was a widow and had previously been married to John Bolt), they married Oct 08 1826 in the parish church at Mortonhampstead.
During their married life he became ill at least 3 times and he, Susannah and their children were removed from the places they lived and placed in the poor house in North Bovey. In 1845 Edward, Susannah, John, George and Susan were all in the Union Workhouse in Okehampton, Devon. I also have the census of 1851 when Edward was in Newton Abbot Workhouse, but Susannah and some of their children were living in Exeter, Devon. Edward died in 1863 in Newton Abbot and Susannah died 1874 in Exeter, Devon.
Hope this was helpful, I know your ancestor George married Ellen Bennellick who was actually my Great Grandfather (George Henry Bennellicks Sister)!!! George Henry Bennellick married Mary Jane Carnell, she was Mary Ann Doney Mudge and William Carnells Daughter. If you need any more help please let me know, the info I have on the Bennellicks is quite extensive.
