Essex / Re: Theobald Joslin (female) c1646.
« on: Sunday 13 March 22 01:58 GMT (UK)  »
Just want to say thank you to Pennines and ciderdrinker for your help, it is very much appreciated.

I've reached the end of the road now for my Joslins, I will write up my notes for Theba aka Theobald Joslin, wife of John Battle, as baptised 3 Oct 1643 at Roxwell, Essex, the daughter of Richard Joselin and Ann Harding or Richard Joselin and Ann Benson.

I found the burial of one of the Anns, Ann Josceline wife of Richard buried 12 Nov 1639 at Roxwell.

Here are the Joslin children I found.

In date order the baptism of Richard and Ann's (x2) children
20 Sep 1629, Margaretting, Daniel Joslin.
20 Sep 1629, Margaretting, John Joslin.
29 Jan 1631, Great Waltham, Richard Joselinne.
9 Feb 1633, Margaretting, Edward Joslin.
27 May 1638, Great Waltham, Thomas Joseling.
3 Oct 1643, Roxwell, Theba Joseline.   Theba aka Theobald, my ancestor.
1 Sep 1644, Great Waltham, John Josline.
John (1644) and Theba had just Richard as their parent, the other children had Richard and Anne shown as parents.

The two Richard Joselin marriages are -
Richard Joselin to An Harding 7 Dec 1625 at Great Waltham.
Richard Joselin to Ann Benson 25 Jul 1627 at Great Waltham.
I have searched to see if an Ann Joselin was buried 1625 to 1627 in Essex but nothing found.

Unfortunately I can't use naming patterns to decide which Ann is the mother of which children, the only name in the above children matching those of John and Theobald Battle is John but that's no help.

I have found the baptism of Ann Benson and five siblings, her parents are William Benson and Jane Choping, one of the siblings has a first name matching one in the family of John and Theobald Battle, the match is Maria Benson and Mary Battle.  :)

Regards and thanks.

Just thought I'd mention that I found Ann Benson the wife of Richard Joslin.

Ann Benson baptised 4 Oct 1609 at Great Waltham, parents William Benson and Jane nee Chopin,
Also found five siblings all baptised at Great Waltham, the six children were baptised 1589 to 1609, the only one of those children with a name that was used by John Battle and his wife Theobald nee Joslin was Maria Benson.

So far I've found one An Harding baptised 25 Apr 1607 at Aveley, Essex, (30 miles from Gt Waltham) the daughter of Thomas, found eight Harding children in an appropriate time frame spread over five different parishes, still working on the Harding name.

Thanks for that ciderdrinker, that's very appreciated help.

I believe I know the reason I couldn't find that marriage, I put two and two together and made it five. ::)

I got the idea in my head that the marriage would be around the time of the other two Richard and Ann Joslins, so I might not have covered 1653 in my searches, a bit of a der moment on my part.

I have seven children baptised 1629 to1646, most with Richard and Ann shown as parents, two with just Richard, I think there's more than one set of parents named Richard and Ann so I'm going to have a look at the parents and siblings of the two Anns married at Gt Waltham, looking for clues to define which Richard and Ann are the parents of Theba aka Theobald Joslin.  fingers very crossed .

The children were baptised, 2 in 1629 at Margretting, 1 in 1631 at Gt Waltham, 1 in 1633 at Margaretting, 1 in 1638 at Gt Waltham, 1 in 1643 at Roxwell, finally, 1 in 1646 at Gt Waltham.

Hi ciderdrinker can you please give me what details you got regarding the Broomfield marriage of Richard Joceslyn to Ann Garrild, just can't seem to find it on Ancestry, FreeReg, Family search or the Find My Past initial search, perhaps I'm not doing something correctly.

Thanks ciderdrinker, I've noted it all down, I managed to get someone to send me the image of Theba's baptism, after a lot of checking I'm convinced that Theba the daughter of Richard Joslin is the Theobald Joslin who married John Battle at Roxwell in 1667.  Apart from being the most likely Joslin around. the variant Theball for Theobald is not uncommon, just one of many I've come across, so I'll accept Theba.

The only thing that I find disconcerting is that John and Theobald (nee Joslin) Battle didn't name a son Richard or a daughter Anne, the only children I've found were named, Elizabeth, Theobald, John, Mary, Sarah, Ursula and Katherine.  Mind there is a four year gap between that marriage 1667 and the baptism on the first known child Elizabeth 1671.

I like the look of the Richard Joceslyn and Ann Garrid who married at Broomfield, Great Waltham is pretty close to Broomfield, one of the children of a Richard and Ann was Richard Joselinne baptised 29 Jan 1631 at Great Waltham.

I'm wondering if the three children of a Richard and Ann Joslin baptised at Margretting, Daniel and John both 1629 and Edward 1633, are the children of a different set of parents named Richard and Ann time will tell.  :)

Regards.

Essex / Theobald Joslin (female) c1646.

Has any one come across this lady?

Theobald Joslin married my ancestor John Battle 28 Nov 1667 at Roxwell, Essex.

I have searched Ancestry, Free Reg, Family Search and Find My Past unsuccessfully, I cannot say with 100% certainty that she was born/baptised in Essex but it looks that way.

I have looked in Surname Interests but the person with an Essex Joslin interest hasn't been active for quite a while.

I did find one Theobald Joslin the daughter of Richard and Ann baptised 27 Oct 1664 at Writtle, probably related but obviously not the Theobald Joslin I'm looking for.

I'd be grateful for any advice or pointers.

Regards

Technical Help / Editing/cursor problem in Microsoft Excel worksheets
« on: Wednesday 19 January 22 04:48 GMT (UK)  »
In my Microsoft Excel work sheets.

In the text on my worksheets I cannot locate my Cursor to go back and correct an error once I've finished typing the note and moved on, when I try the cursor jumps to the end of the text sentence.

If while I’m typing a note I notice a mistake the cursor will allow me to place it back where I want but not after I’ve finished typing the note and moved on.

The problem does not exist in Microsoft Word.

This problem has only occurred in the last few days, prior to that no problem.

I would be very grateful for guidance, in “idiot’s” language please, I am a little computer literate but no too technically competent
