fallingonabruise, that's fascinating! Wish I could find one for Lancashire areas! thank you.

thanks to giggsycat for the original link :)
but yes it is fascinating reading,  so sad for all those children burnt to death and thrown away babies :(   tho I have spent all day terrified that I will suddenly drop dead from a vistation of god as there seemed to be an awful lot if it about !!

The Lighter Side / Re: DNA Testing
« on: Sunday 26 November 17 21:25 GMT (UK)  »
just want to add my experience :)
I bought kits for myself and my Dad from Ancestry (buying a DNA also gives you discount on subscriptions)
anyway,
also uploaded them to Gedmatch where you can phase them and make another kit that contains all the DNA that you got from your mum amongst other things.
So between the 2 sites I have been able to confirm a major part of my tree (Lloyd) and confirm a 'guess' that has got me back another couple of generations due to the matches I have been in contact with and am currently working on 'Taylor' that has been a brickwall for years but I'm in contact now with 2 branches of that family, so to me it was worth every penny.
Have just got one for my mum in the sale too, my Parents are in their early eighties , and are loving all the info that is coming out about their past

Have you tried Gedmatch ? you upload all your raw DNA files (easier to do than it sounds !) As you have your mums test and your own, you can 'phase' them to make a test kit that only contains the DNA you received from your father and use that to look for matches too, I have had more success contacting people on there than on Ancestry :)

The Common Room / London Met Archives no Images?
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 15:02 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone else noticed that a lot of the images are missing ?
I've noticed it in the marriages, a lot of the ones I have saved are all saying no image, yet i am sure they used to be there, as it was how I could prove they were the right marriages as there was the picture with the full names address etc   ???
sorry forgot to say this is on Ancestry

Just adding a note
did my DNA on Ancestry and also uploaded to GEDmatch,
On GEDmatch I am related at 4.3 generations to JanChat, who, if anyone remembers, was researching the Australian Lloyds and we were trying to find the link with Benjamin Lloyd (JBL's dad )and Benjamin Lloyd the father of the ones that set off to Australia, so I think this means that we were right !
