The mind boggles, but thanks for the help at least it broadens the horizon a bit.
I was stuck in a rutt looking for his birthplace as I am thinking once found coming over and seeing where it all began.

It's a thought, will have to look into the 2 possible matches.

Although on on the Marriage it says Londonderry, as you said he may of just said Kerry/Derry and being misheard they have put Londonderry anyway.

Thanks for your help and guidance.

Cheers

I was lead to believe that when Dennis came Scotland, with him being Irish he was not heard correctly and the registrar put down what he thought was Eschine.

Have looked at other forums and one gave info on Dennis, saying that no Eschine could be found and that one possibility of his home parish was that off Macosquin.

Trying to find if such a parish exists in Derry with no luck at the moment. Releasing that parishes may get their name changed.

Apparently  Dennis was literate as he signed his name on the Wedding Cert, so it's a puzzle and I`m desperate to find out where he came from as I`m only 5th Generation here in Scotland.

Looking for any info on a very distant ancestor, that of Dennis Quigley. All I know about him was that he was born in Ireland, Country Derry 1833. He moved to Scotland where he married his wife Sarah McGinnes.
On his Marriage Cert his parish was given as Eschine but following some lines of enquiry it may in fact of been a small village called Macosquin as no Eschine could be found.
His parents where Hugh Quigley (Farmer) & Mary McGuire of which I have no info at all on. Have tried some of these land holder docs but no mention of them.
Would love to know if there are still relatives there or someone who know more about the family.

Renfrewshire / Re: Quigley From Greenock
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 19:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Elaine and thanks for the welcome.

Where he actually came from is a bit of a puzzle, all I know is he came from county Derry (Londonderry) and his parents were Hugh Quigley & Mary McGuire.

I think on his Marriage cert says he was from Eschine (or something similar), but haven`t been able to find a place named that in N.Ireland. All I managed really to get was His parents names. and his date of birth.

On the Childrens births certs, it just states that he was born in Ireland.

Thanks for your help.

Iain
