Quigley From Greenock
« on: Sunday 18 January 09 17:29 GMT (UK) »
Looking for info on a Quigley Family from Greenock, Scotland.
Have a few names and dates, other than that I`m at a dead end with other members of the family apart from my own direct lineage.
Dennis Quigley (b)c1833 came from Ireland (around the Derry area). Then he moved to Greenock where he married a Sarah McGinnes in 1855 (she came from Donegal) and had 9 children that I know off.
Mary (b)1855
Hugh (b)1857
Sarah (b)1859
Mary Jane (b)1861
         (m) James McGorran
Roseanna (b)1862___________(d)1864
Dennis (b)1864_____________ (d)1870
William (b)1865
          (m) Bridget Corkie    (my GG Grandparents)
John (b)1867
Margaret (b)1870
          (m) William Willams

Would love to hear from anybody who has any info on the above children or their offspring.

I am sorry but my email is not working at the moment.

Hi grianaig
a big Welcome to Rootschat
I have a Margaret Ann Quigley in my tree
I dont know much about her though
she was born about 1830 in Ireland and Married a George Mooney
who was an auctioneer
I notice that Mary was born 1855 on Scotlands people
you would get her birth cert and that would give you more info
about whereabouts in Derry they came from

Hi Elaine and thanks for the welcome.

Where he actually came from is a bit of a puzzle, all I know is he came from county Derry (Londonderry) and his parents were Hugh Quigley & Mary McGuire.

I think on his Marriage cert says he was from Eschine (or something similar), but haven`t been able to find a place named that in N.Ireland. All I managed really to get was His parents names. and his date of birth.

On the Childrens births certs, it just states that he was born in Ireland.

Thanks for your help.

Iain

Hi Iain
I wonder if your Hugh was from Iskaheen(Eskaheen) which is near Derry(about 8 miles) and came under the Barony of Londonderry. plenty of quigley's in that area

Hello
I have Quigleys registered in Fairymount, Kilderry, Londonderry.  There is a townland named Eskaheen in Kilderry.  Some of them also went to Greenock but I'm not sure of their names.
