Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Suffolk County Bts
« on: Thursday 22 July 04 23:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi Frances,   thanks for the birth info on James, if it's the right person he is the father of James William Goldsmith as found on the 1881 census who is definitely my husband's 2xgt grandad.  I just need a birth cert for James William to confirm.

Hi Kris,  just to confuse matters the James  that was born & christened in 1815 in Ixworth also had a wife called Susannah who was born in Hepworth, in 1881 they were 'retailers of beer' and living in Lavenham.

thank you both for your help

Hi Frances,
Bishops Transcripts, I never thought of that. :-[
I found the entry tonight on the IGI for a James Goldsmith christened 11 May 1815.  I believe the James I want was born in Ixworth.
Looks like I shall have to have a holiday in Suffolk and look up some parish records.
thanks

I've found a possible christening for a 3xgt grandad in Suffolk County Bts.  Could anyone tell me where this place/area is in Suffolk?
thanks in advance

Hi Peter,
I hadn't thought about trying to check his siblings births.  The county library, though not far, is a bit awkward to get to but I have a few credits left on 1837 online so I'll give that a try.
Thanks for the idea.

Hi Peter,
I quite like the look of the last scan even though the mother is not called Annie (I have no actual proof that she was).   I might invest in a birth certificate though it might not prove anything.

Thanks for your time

Hi Peter,
The names I've got for George's brother & sisters are - Bob, Charlie, Henry, Kate, Florrie, Maggie, Ada & William.  These names were given to me by George's son, but I have no proof that they are correct or in the right order. Any help or ideas would be most appreciated, or I'll just have to wait another 6 years til the 1910 census is published. :)

Family History Beginners Board / how do I find the right birth?

I'm having difficulty trying to find my grandfather's birth, his name is George Holmes, he died 20 December 1967 aged 72 in Hull, he was married 14 December 1918 in Hull.   His marriage certificate gives his father as Thomas Henry Holmes (a labourer).

Supposedly George's mother was called Annie.  I've tried using the 1901 census but have had no luck in matching all the names, the main problem being I don't know where George was born.  I have found several Georges born in Hull but how do I decide which might be the right one?

Many thanks for all the replies, :) yes I've noticed the marriages of Samuel Tuttle and Esther Barber in 1843 but I don't think they are the right people.

According to the 1851 census (a very kind person found it for me) Samuel is aged 24 and Esther is aged 22 with a daughter Sarah aged 1.    I know the legal age for marriage was about 12 years old, but did people really get married that young.

I shall have to find out where the church records are kept and try to get to see them.

Interesting to know that there is a Tuttles Lane, does anybody know if Low Street in Wicklewood still exists.

thanks again, Bee
