Dumfriesshire / Re: 5th. k.o.s.b. dumfries

My grandfather and his father served with the 5th K.O.S.B. Dumfries in WW1. I donated his glengarry and badges to dumfries museum, they might help.
If you google K.O.S.B. you will get the army museum at Berwick on Tweed, there is a family history link with a list of addresses that might help you.

My grandfather came to Law from Dumfries after WW1.  His father Michael Farrell moved from Ireland to Arlecdon Cumbria between 1859 and 1864 with his parents William Farrell & Roseann Burns. My uncle told me that they came from Co. Down but other rels researching say they came from Baltinglass.

Thanks Gerry, I did manage to find my way into the Globe Cem, but did not find any of my family, [Muircrofts] although from death records I know some of them are in there.  Most of the stones had been vandalised or pushed over, face down.  Did manage to get some photo's.  Will have to try and get through to the Heritage Centre to look through their records sometime.
My mothers name is Farrell, she came from the Law. Her father came from Penrith and Grandfather from Baltinglass in Co. Wicklow.

Hi, I have tried to find the Globe Cemetery a couple of times, but could not find it. I can see it on the old maps but could not find access.  I know children of my ancestors are buried there, and as they lived at Old Logans and Roman Rd, its possible some of the parents are there. Their name was Muircroft/Moorcroft. According to the council webpages the cemetery is closed?. Can you help, Thanks.

Hi Margaret,  Yes they are still standing although they have been modernised a bit.  My mother still lives in Windygates and I will probably be down sometime next week. Will try and get pics for you.

Joe.

The Red Buildings are a block of houses built of red sandstone, they are situated on the Kennoway road just north of the traffic lights at Windygates cross.  As far as I can remember there are 8 flats, 4 up, 4 down, [could be wrong about the number].
The downstair flats are accessed by front and back doors. The upstair flats by outside stone stairways at the rear of the building.
Hope this helps.

Thanks folks, but this info is which I already have. what I am looking for is info on the village and the Montgomery family who lived there in the late 1800S. The original village was demolished in the 1950's  to make way for a new road and redevelopment.
