Canada Lookup Request / Re: Kennedy

Thank you for all the information. It would be great of you could look in the graveyard for me. There is nothing else in the postcard that would help - it was sent on 13th May 1907 from Toronto to his wife in Larne and just wishes everybody well and sends love. The only other thing I know is that he worked in a gas works in Toronto. 'Legend' has it that he was shot dead in a saloon after a brawl! (Don't know whether this is true!) Although living in Larne before going to Canada, he was born in Drumcon townland in Killoquin, Rasharkin, Co. Antrim.

Continued thanks for all the help on Robert. I am certain that he was born 18th February 1879 and he married in 1903 in Larne. However, just checked my notes...ooops...my mistake.....I have a postcard that he sent to his wife in May 1907. It was postmarked Toronto. Sorry for confusing the Canadian places!

Ireland / Re: Sherrard

Lynette,

I am also trying to research my Sherrard ancestors. My grandfather was Hugh (born in Belfast in 1900) His family before that came from Carnmoney. Hugh's father was Samuel and his mother Isabella. Samuel's father was also Samuel and his wife was Rose Anna.  I want to know about the brothers and sisters, if any. I do not think my grandfather had any brothers and he only had one daughter (my mother) so that 'line' died out. Do you think we are in any way connected?

Thank you to all who are helping me with the Sherrard tree. I did, however, know some of the facts that you sent me and that the name has been changed to Shearer in some cases but I did not know that there was a Samuel who died in infancy. This would be my grandfather's brother. He had told me that there were children in that family who died. This is a great help but how did you know that that Samuel was from the same family for familysearch.org gives no details of the parents? (I am new to this game!)

Thank you, Valerie C, for your help. I do not think that Robert had a brother. He had a sister, Margaret, but she did not travel with him as far as I know. Robert definitely did not bring his family out to Canada. After his death my great grandmnother remarried in Norther ireland. I do not know if Robert intended to bring the family out (he had three young children) or if he intended to leave them! He was, indeed, a labourer but then that's what a lot of Irish men were in those days.  As a newcomer to rootschat I am very interested in the websites you are giving me. I did not know about the automated genealogy. Thank you again and I'll keep searching!

Antrim / Sherrard family
« on: Monday 20 January 14 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace my grandfather's family. His name was Hugh Sherrard - born in Belfast 1900. I know he's buried in Carnmoney Parish Church Cemetry with my grandmother but other Sherrard members are buried there too. I am wondering who they are and how many brothers and sisters Hugh had. (I think some died as infants) Is there anyone out there who is in any way connected with the Sherrard line? They came from Mossley/Monkstown district,Co. Antrim.

Hi, Sandra,

Robert Kennedy was born in Rasharkin area of Northern Ireland on 18th February 1879. ( I think he died around 1911) He was marrried to Mary Jane Kells/Kennedy although she did not travel to Canada with him. Robert's mother was Mary Stirling and his father was John Kennedy.

Thanks for helping.

Heather

Hi,

I am trying to find out information about my great-grandfather, Robert Kennedy, who left Northern Ireland for Canada around 1906. It is believed that he died in Canada not long after he went out there.  He was definitely in Ontario in 1907. How can I fond out about his death and where he was buried? Thank you, Heather Cardwell
