Surrey / Re: John Inwood of Farnham - 20 children?????

Hi,

The four years between 1596 and 1600 suggest the possible death of a wife and a subsequent 2nd marriage... That would make 15 children for the first marriage - not impossible.  I have a grandmother who had 13 children.

I think that, unfortunately, you'll never be certain.

Have you ruled out the possibility of a third marriage?  She was last known as Annie Barnard in 1938 at age 66.  Not too late.

Hi,

I'm looking for a marriage (or death) record for Allice.   Parents Henry and Elizabeth.

The name on the SFHG transcript is spelled with a double ll.

Thanks in advance.

Suz,

Thanks much for the clarification of the marriage!

In re: the note on the parish registrar, I haven't seen the Cranley PR's. I'll see if I can track down Rev. J.K. Miller presumably he was at a neighboring parish

For Charlotte, I have:  5 Aug. 1821 in Lurgashall and 3-17-1822 in Plastow/Kirdford.  Seems too close together to have been a death followed by a second child. ??

While we're at it, there also seem to have been two Esthers

I've wondered if there were two sets of parents at work here, but I've pretty much discounted that.

 Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your comments.

After quite a bit of time spent with Ancestry (Lib. ed), Family Search and BMD, I have

Elisha
1818 - Christening
1844 - Marries Elizabeth Ashby
1851-  Appears in this census and others thru 1881
1887-   Dies in Walton-on-Thames age 73

Elijah
1815- Christening
1851 - Did not find in Census
1857 - Marries Elizabeth Anscomb
1859 - Dies in Kingston-on-Thames age @52.  Therefore DOB: @1807

No other Elisha or Elijah Quinnells appear in the records; there is no record of an infant death for Elijah so at this time I have to agree with Liz that it is two different children.  After all, nobody dies twice.

Surrey / Elijah/Elisha Quinnell -Same person?

From christening records:

Parents:  James and Hannah Quinnell

Cranleigh, Surrey:  5/30/1815  Elijah Quinnell
Plastow/Kirdford:  2-8-1818  Elisha Quinnell

I think this is the same child baptized twice. The different spellings accounted for by different pronunciations of the name.  But I've never been able to really clarify it.

James and Hannah seemed to have had their daughter Charlotte baptized twice.
Can't think of a reason for a double baptism.  Something to do with parish assistance to the poor, perhaps?

Thank you! I will check those links.

Rody (Rodger) is a family name.  My 2x great uncle Rodger/Rody upon arrival in NY was listed as Rhoda - that threw us off for awhile.

Additional problem: various spellings: O'Meara, Mara and O'Mara.   ;D

Just curious.  Weren't stillborn children recorded in any way at all?

I presume you've looked for a will.
