Hey. that's really interesting. i descend from the brother of you grt grandmother ann- my grt grt grandfather joseph gilogley. My surname is milton but my father has gilogley as a middle name!

I also was in touch with a lady from australia- it sounds like it could be the same person- she refereed to her family tree as her family bible. unfortunately she has misplaced her information and has not yet found it! hehe.

I havn't got any further than owen gilogley and hannah mcInade. I am really struggling there and am having trouble searching irish records!

By the way, whats your name? should have asked that first!

World War Two / Soldier Service Records

Hi,

I was planning on sending away for my grandads war service records but I was hoping someone might give me some information about what is contained within service records?

I have to complete a SAR form and send this away with a £30 cheque so details on what to expect would be great incase it is not worth £30!

Also, if the SAR form asks me to state clearly what information is required. I just want as much information as possible so does anyone know if I can just state this?

Hope someone can help,

Alan

That could be the correct people in the census because both james and susan had a daughter called isabella but she was born in 1802. A few years out but still a possibility.

Hi,

I am trying to trace back the Thom and Cordiner branches of my family tree but I am pretty stuck! Any info or advice would be great!

The info I have so far is that:

James Hogg Thom's (b. 1845, m. 1866, d. 1888) parents were

     John Hogg Thom (b. 1814, m. 1835. d 1870) and
     Mary May (m. 1835)

     John Hogg Thom's parents were

          James Thom and
          Susan Cordiner

I know this isn't a lot but they all seemed to live in Peterhead, Aberdeen.

Hope someone can help.

Hiya,

Sorry to bother you again but I just have one small question. I have robert and jane forresters son robert birth, marriage and death certificates but there are differences within them! His mum's (Jane) surname is forrester in his birth but it is wylie in his marriage and death! I think that proves that jane's parents are john forrester and agnes wylie but I was wondering why her surname has changed? Also, from the census info you have found her surname seems to be forrester there!

Dunno if you have any ideas?

Regards,

Al
