Thanks Rosie17.  I'm not booked into anything yet.  How far ahead would I have to do that.  I'll only be in Glasgow for a week. Can I phone in a booking when I arrive or should I do that on line before leaving here (Canada).

Thank you for your help.

I'm hoping to visit the Mitchell Library in Glasgow in October.  Will I be able to see a birth certificate from 1950 or will the 100 year rule still apply?  I need to find out who the parents are.

Many thanks for your help

Hi Carolyn:  James McIntyre (the cheese poet) was my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.  Are you related to Harvey Brown of Alberta, Canada?  We were in contact a couple of years ago and he was able to provide me with some information on James's daughter Kate Ruttan.  I have a couple of generations back from Peter and Primrose in Scotland and would like to contact you by email.  You have to post three messages on Roots Chat before I can send you a PM (personal message) when I can give you my email address.  So just post two more messages here and I'll PM you.

Regards, Patricia  :D

Thanks again for the tips Rosie, djct59 and GR2.  I plan on taking my tablet as I'll have all my Family Tree copied on to it.  When (and if) I find a document I want, I presume I can I copy it on to a USB memory stick rather than paying for a printed copy.  Am I right in my assumption or is there another glitch?  Yes, GR2 I have used Moray Libindex.  I think its a wonderful site and I've traced lots of ancestors from there.  Such a treat to get free information after spending so much on SP.

Thanks GR2 and TerriG for your advice.  I have extensive records and am pretty well organized so would certainly have a list of all the things I need to look up, i.e. when there are several people with the same common name, etc and I couldn't afford to look at them all to find the right one on Scotland's People or else the actual documents were too recent to be on-line. My research is mostly Lanarkshire and Morayshire (19th and 20th century). Just wasn't sure if the Mitchell Library would cover the Highlands area.  I'll probably have a look at both anyway.

Many thanks again for your help.
