robert costelloe married lillian bourke on 3rd oct 1911.she survived him.

there was no mention of a wilson in his will,so the parents may have died before 1927 when robert died.

johnny i think you must be right about the wife's maiden name being costello.

unfortunately waterford might be a red herring too, because robert moved there from dublin.he originally went there while an employee of messrs baird and co abbey st dublin and remained to set up in business.he was born [or at least christened] in cavan.

he may have been born in dublin going by 1911 and 1901 census

the snippet was a result of a search on this site:

i too suspect the insert was done by robert himself, and is replicated in the munster express.

it's hardly possible his name was wilson costelloe is it?or  maybe a double barreled first name like * wilson costelloe?

many thanks again for all the help here.

Do you have the names of any sisters of Robert and Leonard (or parents)?

i do indeed.parents were william costelloe and mary garry.married 1854 in mullingar

children:

elizabeth        died 1929  spinster
thomas           died 1885  batchelor
ROBERT          died 1927  married but no children
mary-anne     1860-1886  spinster   *
margaret        1860-?                        *   twins
catherine        1864-1871
jane               1867-1872
henry               ?     -1874

margaret looks a likely prospect, but i've not been able to find her,and she is not buried in the family plot in glasnevin as all the above are.i suspect therefore she may have survived to adulthood and married?

there must be more children though because robert left money to his nephew laurence costello and his nephew leonard costello

the family were very widespread, with leonard [snr] in ennis, robert in waterford and the children above born in roscommon, sligo, westmeath, dublin and cavan!

mine were and intriguing and perplexing crowd were'nt they lol!they had itchy feet too apparently

wow you guys are fantastic!you are right leonard is the brother of robert.

you are also right robert was a major plumbing contractor in waterford.

one of the big jobs he took on was a full refit of curraghmore house for the marquis of waterford.plumbers were contracted from all over uk and ireland and he was the lead contractor.

this insert in the paper was the first i knew of 2nd lt wilson.

from what i know about the family, most died in infancy or young.

pity the paper didnt give the full name.

the dublin find mentioned above sounds very promising!

many thanks again guys
