Thanks so much - her granddaughter (Winifred Marion Beard), who is my aunt kept insisting that her grandfather died just before my father was born. You have clearly settled the debate and my aunt was clearly right. Thanks so much for your help. Kind regards Paul

Trying to find out what happened to my great-grandmother after the 1901 Census when, at age of 52, she was shown as living in Woolaston. She was married to Henry Thomas Eagles (B 1849 D 1911). He was a police officer, based at Littledean Jail and then in the police house on the London Road at Woolaston.

Her parents were Luke Shearman (B 1808 D ?) and Ann ? Any information about them would be very welcome also. Thanks for your interest and any pointers you are able to give.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / James & Janet Beard - marriage & deaths

Try as I might I have been unable to find out when and where James Beard (b abt 1849 in Gloucestershire) and Janet Beard (nee Turner b abt 1849 in Gorbals, Glasgow) got married but I suspect it was in Penrith or thereabouts as their eldest son (John) was born there in 1875 and Janet Turner had been in service there.

The 1871 census shows James Beard as living in Lymm, Cheshire so must have met and married Janet Turner sometime between 1871 and 1875. He was a stonemason so probably worked in or around Penrith in that trade. They subsequently lived at various addresses in Barton St Mary, Gloucestershire.

Have now established that James Beard died in Gloucestershire in 1910 so am just looking at when and where he married Janet Turner. Any information or pointers would be much appreciated.

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Smith B Monmouth 1856

Thanks for the update - struck me when I checked the census records just how much William had aged over 10 years. Also wondered what happened to William J Smith (11 in 1891) and how an 1891 4yr old Frank may have manifested into a 1901 6yr old Frank E Smith. But that, is the fun and challenge of researching. Your post was very much appreciated and apologies for delay in thanking you. Paul

Lanarkshire / Jane Turner born Glasgow 1849
« on: Saturday 18 September 10 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I am trying to find out about my paternal great grandmother. Her maiden name was Jane Turner. She was born in 1849 in Glasgow (actual date not known) and married James Beard, born in Gloucestershire circa 1849, and subsequently moved to Gloucestershire.

The 1861 census shows her as living in Penrith, Cumbria which is where I assume she met her husband to be as he was a stonemason and travelled around for work. Their eldest son, John David Beard, was born in Penrith in 1875 but by 1881 they were living in the Forest of Dean.

Any clues as to who her parents / siblings etc were and when she married James Beard would be most welcome. Thanks for any help you are able to give.

Monmouthshire Lookup Requests / William Smith B Monmouth 1856
« on: Monday 13 September 10 10:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi - this is my first posting on this forum so I hope that I have got things about right. I am trying to find out more about my maternal great-grandfather William Smith.

All I know of him is that he was born in Monmouth in circa 1856. He married Elizabeth F Eley (born Gloucester circa 1857). They had several children, one of whom was Hilda Maude Smith (my grandmother) born March 1892 in Dursley, Gloucestershire and died in 1943 in Hersham, Surrey. Her married name was Stoner.

If possible I would like to identify who the parents / siblings of William were. All I know is that his father was John Smith and his mother was Elizabeth ? Thanks very much indeed for any help anyone is able to give me.
