Ann Ellen Macrae died in 1940 aged 66. She had married John Robertson who also died in 1940 aged 62. They both died at 61 King Street, Wrexham. They were buried with her parents Finlay and Mary at Wrexham Cemetery.

Incidentally the Acton Estate was designed by Lord Abercrombie in the 1920's and was built on land previously belonging to Acton Hall.

It was the Garden Village estate which was built in 1913 that was built to house the miners and officials of Gresford Colliery.

Garden Village is further north on the left of Chester Road going out of Wrexham town.

Yes, I thought I was right. You know how you remember something but you can't remember where you've seen it.

Park View is still there actually. It is on the left hand side of Rhosnesni Lane coming from Dean Road towards the now roundabout with Borras Road. Further along on the left is the Gate Hangs High pub which can be seen on the photograph.

Denbighshire / Brewing at home
« on: Sunday 10 June 12 14:15 BST (UK)  »
I know Wrexham had many independent breweries, some of them quite small.

An ancestor of mine was a brewer but I am anxious to know if he brewed from home or if the address I have found for him was just his residence.

I know that there were breweries by there but am wondering if the street numbering was the same then.

I ask this because their son, John was born there in c 1823. I have his marriage lines in Wrexham in 1846. He married an Elizabeth Ellis.

Evan and Jane would have been quite old then having him.

Thank you for this reference WR Jones. I haven't noticed it before but I cannot see Llangadfan anywhere only what looks like Bryncarnedd.

Do you think it could be them?

Montgomeryshire / Llangadfan Info Please
« on: Saturday 09 June 12 14:19 BST (UK)  »
John Evans b 1823 Llangadfan. I have details of him from then onwards.

His father listed as Evan Evans a butcher in 1846 on John's marriage certificate.

His mother Jane??

According to John's Baptism they could have been living at Whitehall in 1823.

I would appreciate any info on Evan and Jane and any other children they may have had.

I feel that Park View was on what is now Rhosnesni Lane near to the Gate Hangs High pub. I am sure I have seen a photograph of it but I will have to check for you.

I have tried to post an excerpt from a local paper on here but the file is too large.

It is from Dec 1866 and speaks of a fire at Eirianallt Fawr a farm in the occupation of Mr J Roberts.

I can forward it to you if you supply me with an email address.
