Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Sexton at Glendermott Church of Ireland

Thank you. I do have a scan of the aerial photo but it is too big to post and I am not sure I have the software to downsize it. I will have to check out what I have on my older compueter which is not internet capable & follow the instructions on the old photo information post.
 :D
The Babington family is linked to my family through having a farm neighbouring the Dougherty faarm at Creevagh and I think that Bob Livingston, the gt-uncle whose album I have, worked as a mechanic for a Babington garage? That is how my grandparents are said to have met. Bobleft for the USA in the 1920s and only returned to Ireland when he retired. My grandfather was Oswald Livingston.

Derry (Londonderry) / Sexton at Glendermott Church of Ireland

Can anyone tell me if there was a cottage associated with the job of sexton at Gelndermott Church. My gt grandfather William Livingston was sexton there sometime after 1911 & before 1936 when he died. I have an aerial photograph of the area from the Sentinal around the time the Altnagelvin hospital opened which was in a gt-uncle's photograph album and I wondered if any of the houses shown near the Glendermott church could have been their home. I know they lived in Spencer Rd  pre WW1 but am not sure about later.

I don't know if this is related but the will of Catherine Colhoun nee Shiels of 1894 of Londonderry lists her nephew Samuel McLaughlin  of ? Creggan School, son of Samuel late of Taughboyne and two nieces Mrs Margaret Jane Parker & Mrs Susan Parker both of Greenock Scotland. The will is free to view at PRONI.

Thank you so much. I did think that Rebecca Shiels had a sister Catherine but cannot find my source.  I have been looking at the Crossroads Church site and wondering if the Samuel Shiels who married Mary Donnaster in 1827 is the same Samuel Shiels, weaver of Monreagh who was Rebecca & Catherine's father.

Andrew Colhoun a merchant of Bishops St, Londonderry died february 1881. In his will he listed Margaret Jane Dougherty nee Cole (my gt grandmother) and her sister Catherine A McFrederick nee Cole as nieces. Their mother was Rebeccas nee Shiels. Can anyone tell me if his wife Catherine Colhoun who died 1894 was also a Shiels?

Thank you. I don't know if James is John Lowthers faher but he could be.

John Lowther d 1913 looks like he is the husband of Catherine nee Dougherty formerly of Coolkeeragh who had moved to Castruse Bogay c1885 I think. The family were in Lisdillon when Catherine's father Henry Dougherty died in 1877 (I have that will). My ancestor is Catherine's brother William John Dougherty of Creevagh (I have his will also).

I have not been able to discover the name of Henry Dougherty's wife or get any further back than them on the Dougherty line. I have the names from Coolkeeragh tithes etc but don't know how the other Doughertys in Coolkeeragh were related to Henry.
