The Common Room / Re: Suicide and inquests

Thanks for your replies. The death cert does indicate there was an inquest so I'll go hunting to see if it still exists.
Thanks

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Banks family
« on: Wednesday 29 January 14 13:09 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks everyone for your replies
The 1905 passenger list was new to me and the directory entries.

Do you know if there would be any way to find out where he worked or to access local newspapers from the time?

Thanks
Kirsten

Hi
If someone committed suicide in 1931, would there be an inquest? Are the records available? He died in Merton, Surrey.

Thanks

Canada Lookup Request / Banks family
« on: Monday 27 January 14 13:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm looking for any info on a family who moved from UK to Montreal in 1910 and returned in 1919.
Thomas Banks (b1879 Hull, UK) was a cashier or bookkeeper
Florence Banks (b1884 Hull, UK)
Phyllis Rosina Banks (b1911, Quebec)

I have found them in the 1911 Canadian census, and there are several passenger lists for them. On the census they live in Maisonneuve in Quebec. It says he's been in Canada since 1905 but I can't find a passenger record for him then.
They returned in 1919 but we don't know why. The family rumour is Thomas Banks fled England to avoid financial trouble. They left when Florence was 7 months pregnant! As far as we can tell they only had the one child.

I just wondered if there were any local newspapers or anywhere else I could search to find out any more about their time there and why they returned. He went back and forth from Canada to England several times during this time. When they eventually settled back in England he committed suicide in 1931.

Any advice or pointers to other sources would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Kirsten

The Common Room / Karno company and Belle of New York
« on: Friday 11 October 13 11:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm trying to find Syd Lansdown who from various newspaper articles seems to have been part of Fred Karno's company in 1907-8 probably working with Syd Chaplin - Charlie Chaplins brother.

I also have him in 1915 doing CHarlie Chaplin impressions.

I'm trying to find out where he was from and did he marry?

There could be a Lily Lansdown who if they weren't married did have a relationship with him.

She then toured the country as the lead in the Belle of New York. Does anyone have any info on her?

I've been through BNA and Stage archives - does anyone know of any music hall/variety experts for early 20th century?

THanks
Kirsten

Hi
Does anyone know if there are records of people in service?
I have a friend who's great grandfather who was a gentleman's gentleman. We can't find anything about him except his marriage in 1935 and wondered if there were any other records we could look at.

Thanks

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Name Bradford
« on: Friday 06 September 13 12:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm typing up a family tree done for a friend's mum years ago. I can't get to Wiltshire but can anyone look up:
Cornelius Bradford (d1713 in Wroughton) m Margaret - need marriage look up - don't get confused with his son of the same name m 1709! Thought it was his second marriage for a while!

And where any of his children were born:

Margaret b1654
Elizabeth b1656
Martha b1659
Susannah b1661
John b1663
Cornelius b1665
Anne b1668
Thomas b?

on Family Search I've found Cornelius Bradfield marrying Agnes Vinar in 1630 in Compton Bassett - could be his father?
And found ? Bradfield b 14 April 1633 in Compton Bassett - could be his birth record?

Any help gratefully received.
Thanks
