Searching for the tenants at these 3 London addresses:

#2 Charlotte St., Bloomsbury
#52 Lincoln's Inn Fields (or Rd. #52 ?)
#4 York Cottages, O.Brompton

I have been searching for the BINGLEY and PLAYFAIR families who are listed at these addresses in the 1841 P.O. directory. Previous lookups by Cissellby and Al  show no persons  with these surnames at  these addresses. But I am curious to see just who is living there. May still be related.
Thank you, again.

Hi Al:
Thanks for the quick lookup. Much appreciated!  These people have been a mystery as to where they were living in London. Henry may have been the son of the John Playfair whom I was originally looking for. John's death notice here in Canada stated that he was from Euston Square, London and emigrated in 1843. Born c. 1774 in London. And I was starting to believe that John's sister Elizabeth Playfair-BINGLEY was the Mrs. Bingley on Charlotte St. The Southhampton and Charlotte Street addresses are close to Euston Square. But your information is a start.

Thanks again,
Michael (Lanarman)

From the Post Office directory- I would appreciate the census listing for these 4 people:

PLAYFAIR, Henry, ironmonger, #20 Southhampton St.
PLAYFAIR, Robert, Esq., #39 Dorset Square.

BINGLEY, Charles, tailor, #22 Great Marlborough St.
BINGLEY, Mrs.,  #2 Charlotte St., Bloomsbury.

Thank you.

Searching for a John PLAYFAIR and family in the 1841 census living at Euston Square, London. Please refer to my other message dated Feb. 15/06 regarding the BINGLEY family. They may be living with John Playfair. Thank you.

Hello Cissellby:

Thank you for your help and time. I am now at a loss as to where to search next. The only information I have is the baptism in 1818 of the daughter Amelia at St. James, Westminster. I wrote to the parish there a year ago and they could not find this family listed in the marriage/baptism or death registers. Elizabeth Bingley was born c. 1782 to William PLAYFAIR and his wife Mary MORRIS. She emigrated to Canada in 1843 as a widow with these 2 children.
William Playfair was a noted mechanic and author who apprenticed with James WATT. He died at Covent Garden in 1823. His biography can be viewed at the Electric Scotland website.
Our family notes also refer to William Bingley as the "Professor", originally coming from Sheffield. Maybe a post to the Yorkshire page will help.
Thanks again for your time and patience. Much appreciated.

UPDATE 21, Feb. 2006:

SEEKING ADVICE FROM ANYONE. I DONT THINK A SHEFFIELD POSTING WILL HELP.  I WAS READING THE MIDDLESEX BOARD AND AN 1841 CENSUS LOOKUP SEEMS IMPRACTICAL AS IT IS NOT INDEXED.  OUR FAMILY NOTES SAY THAT THIS BINGLEY FAMILY LIVED IN LONDON. AS CISSELLBY STATED THEY ARE NOT IN THE CITY PROPER IN 1841. THEN MIDDLESEX SHOULD BE MY NEXT AREA OF RESEARCH- CORRECT?
SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!

In a previous message I requested a lookup for this family in the 1841 census:
BINGLEY, William (possibly deceased)
his wife Elizabeth (Betsy) age 59,
Children Amelia, 23 and Charles 19.

I presumed that they were in St. James,Westminster. These address listings are more probable- I do not know which one is correct:

#2 Charlotte St., Bloomsbury.
#22 Great Marlborough St.
#2 Queens Blds., Brompton.
#52 Lincoln's Inns Fields.
#28 Newington Cres., Newington butts.

Hopefully this new information will lead me to the right census listing.
Thank you. :)

Searching for this BINGLEY family in 1841 census:

BINGLEY, William (Professor)             Head.
    "        , Elizabeth (Betsy) age 59   Wife
    "        , Amelia                  age 23   Daughter
    "        , Charles                age 19   Son.

Amelia was baptized 1818 at St. James, Westminster. Family MAY have moved within city by 1841- not sure- possibly Covent Garden. William may have been dead at this time- Elizabeth would be listed as a widow with these children. She was definitely widowed by 1843 when she moved to Canada with her PLAYFAIR brothers.

Thank you in advance for your help.  :)
