Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Staffordshire Jopson's - 1841 Census
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 15:05 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie (again!)

This request has been posted on my behalf in the past but if you'll indulge me I'd like to give it another crack. I'm trying to fill in the gaps in my Jopson ancestors & their movements in the U.K. This is what I've got so far. Ann Jopson (my 2nd Great-Grandmother) born before Feb 1797, Leyland, Lancashire & christened 19 Feb 1797, Leyland..was on both the 1851 & 1861 England Cenuses. In 1851, her & 2 daughters, Mary & Cicely, lived in Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire (I can't make out her occupation..anyone assist there would be great.) In the 1861 Census, Ann & Mary are living in Kendal, Westmorland. Another child, Edward Jopson B: before 21 Mar 1832 & baptised 21 Mar 1832, Longton Circuit, Staffordshire, comes up on the 1851 Census, in Hanley, Stoke upon Trent, as an Assistant draper. Edward & Cicely migrated to Australia in 1853. To get to the crunch, I can't track any of them down on the 1841 Census & no longer have access due to finances. Ann's husband William died before 1851, as in the 1851 Census, her maritul status is as a widow. Any help in finding thier movements prior to 1851 would be helpful. I'm not sure they were in Staffordshire during the 1841 census.

Thanks for your patience & any help you can give.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Beardsworth Family - Lancashire
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie!

I'm hoping someone out there can help fill in some holes in my Beardsworth ancestry. This is what I've got so far. My Great-Great Grandmother was Ann Beardsworth, born before 19 Feb 1797, Leyland, Lancashire. christened 19 Feb 1797, Leyland. She married William Jopson on 31 May 1815, in Preston, Lancashire & they had 3 kids, Mary, Edward & Cicely. Ann Beardsworth's parents were Edward Beardsworth & Ann or Anne ? (surname could be Walmsley.) Edward & Anne married on 11 Jul 1786, in Penwortham, Lancashire (If I that's the correct Edward & Ann?) & had 3 kids: James, B: 4 Apr 1790, Lancashire & baptised 11 Apr 1790 Walton Le Dale, Lancashire. Cecily B: 2 Oct 1792, Lancashire & Baptised 14 Oct 1792, Walton Le dale, Lancashire & of course Ann Beardsworth. In re: to Edward Beardsworth, I have a conflict as I have a his birth Abt. 1761, Penwortham, Lancashire but a Christening for an Edward Beardsworth on 3 Aug 1760, Leyland, Lancashire. I guess to get to the crunch..I would love any more info re: Edward & Ann or Anne re: births/marriage/ ancestry etc that would confirm them & any other info on James & Cecily. I've pretty much rounded out Ann Beardsworth.

Sorry for the lack of details & conflicted details but I don't have much access out here in Tassie.

Thanks.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / George Jubb & Family
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 14:20 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie!

I'm seeking some info on my 3rd Great-Grandfather, George Jubb & his wife, Ann Hallward (her surname could be Halward, Holway, Hulwood or Hallward.) I don't have a lot to go on apart from the following. George was born Abt. 1761, in Nottingham & Ann Hallward was born in Abt 1777, no county found as yet. They married in Abt. 1811, in Sydney, Australia & subsequently had 3 children in Australia. I know there are a lot of "Abt's" there but I'm struggling to find anything tangible as yet. Ann Jubb (nee Hallward) died 15 March 1825, In Launceston, Tasmania but I have no death date for George except it must have been after 1816, when his last child, James Jubb, was born. Sorry about the lack of details but any holes anyone can help me fill in I'd be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / William Byard - London
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 14:08 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie,

I'm looking for some help in finding more about my 3rd Great-Grandfather, William Byard. This is what I've got so far. He married Ann Pithers on 9 Oct 1808, in St. Anne's Church, Soho, Westminster, London. The only child I know of him & Ann's is James Byard, born 8 Aug 1813, London. William died when James was 15 years old, so Abt. 1828 would be William's death. James married Ann Elizabeth Sale on 6 May, 1840 in London & they migrated to Tasmania with their 7 kids in 1856. Before William & Ann moved to London, where they were Cobblers, they were in the Sussex area, involved in Agriculture. I have no idea when they moved from Sussex to London apart from the fact that they were married in London, in 1808, so I'm guessing it was prior to that.

Any help in filling in some gaps around William & Ann's past & any other kids they might have had etc would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Essex Lookup Requests / Ann Jopson - 1885 Death
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie,

I'm seeking some help in getting more info from the England & Wales BMD index. It's my great-great Grandmother I am seeking more info about. I have 1 record of her death from Ancestry.co.uk. She was born in 1797, Leyland, Lancashire. The extract I have has an Ann Jopson, born about 1795, year of registration, 1885, in the quarter of Jan-Feb-Mar. She died age 90 in the district of Chelmsford, Essex, Volume 4a & page 222. I guess what I'm asking is - how can I be sure this is really my ancestor & can anyone lend assistance in me being able to access or access for me, more info from her death?

Thanks a lot.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / William Jopson - 1850 Death
« on: Thursday 11 January 07 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings from Tassie,

I'm seeking some help in getting some more information from a death index. I have 2 records of William Jopson dying in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1850 registration. He died in the district of Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire, Volume 17 & page 99. That's all I get though, so I can't be sure that it is my great-great Grandfather. Can anyone lend assistance.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Celia,

I just wanted to clarify something with you. Is Ann's daughter's name spelt "Cicely" or Cecily? I have Cicely from the 1851 Census but you never know!

Ciao,

Mike

Hi Everyone (Celia & Suz etc)

Here's what I've tracked down so far: Edward Jopson was born in 1832, in Longton, Staffordshire. He was Christened on 21 March 1832, in Longton, Staffordshire, at either High Street Wesleyan Chapel or Lower Wesleyan Chapel(Familysearch.com.) He appears on the 1851 England Census, as an assistant Draper, in Hanley, Stoke Upon Trent, Staffordshire, aged 19. He migrated to Tasmania along with his sister Cicely Jopson, in 1853. In Tasmania, he often used his middle name "Beardsworth" on his children's birth certificates & marriage certificate etc. His parents are William & Ann Jopson (nee Beardsworth.) They were married on 31 May 1815, in St. John's Church, Preston, Lancaashire (familysearch.com.) Ann Jopson appears on both the 1851 & 1861 England census' along with Cicely & Mary Jopson (daughters) although Cicely is only on the 1851 Census. Ann Beardsworth was born in 1796, in Leyland, Lancashire & Christened on 19 Feb 1796 in the same place. On the 1851 Census, she is living in Stoke Upon trent, Staffordshire & in 1861, in Kendal, Westmorland. As Suz said & I didn't pick up at the time, she was a widow on both Census' so William obviously died before 1851! (Doh!) Cicely was born 13 Oct 1833, Longton, Staffordshire & Mary, Abt. 1830, in Hatherton, Cheshire. I guess the assistance I am seeking is any details on William Jopson & also Ann Beardsworth's ancestry.

Thanks a lot,

Mike.
