Canada / Reaich Family
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for information on a family that I've hit a dead end with.

William Reaich was born on 14th April 1897 at 21 Mid Street, Buckie in Scotland to William Reaich and Jessie Cowie.

Isabella Winchester Cowie, was born on 13th August 1900 in 4 William Street, Buckie to Mary Ellen Cowie

William and Isabella married on 23rd July 1920 at 54 Castle Street, Aberdeen in Scotland. They had two daughters, J and M (I'm putting the first letters of their names as they may be living) in the 1920s. I don't know when but they came out to Canada at some point, presumably when their daughters were growing up and it is possible that they have had more children/family out there.

William died on 8th March 1963 at Shaughnessy Hospital in Vancouver. According to his death certificate which I've seen his wife Isabella was still living. I just can't seem to find anything else on the family, his wife or daughters. I know his wife has died but I just don't know when, and I'm not sure about the daughters, it's quite probable that they married in Canada.

Would anyone be able to help me find information on the Reaich family? I found a website where I was able to look at death certificates in British Columbia hence why I found one for William, but I can't find one for Isabella. Although I don't have a death for Isabella I have her place down as Halifax for some reason, I think they may have lived there at some point, I'll have to check.

I'd really appreciate it if anybody could help me find information on the Reaich's, it really is a mystery. I'm aware that their surname has spelling variations but I've still had no luck

Thanks!

Greg

I am still interested in finding out information on Isabella, I've never been able to find anything to date.

I've messaged you so you can let me know about the information you have

Thanks,

Hello,

Since there aren't any other trees on ancestry about the Wilson's the tree you were looking at was probably mine. Just when I thought that family disappeared off the face of the earth they remained in Britain. Out of curiosity I found a marriage for Alexina Wilson as she married someone with the surname Thain (common in Buckie) and then I found a death for this person with the same birth date as the Alexina Wilson I'd found in Buckie. I actually found that James and Georgina had a daughter down in Fleetwood who is still living, and two of their daughters married two brothers from Buckie.

Thanks,

Greg

Hi Rhoda,

That is the correct Jane Cowie, I actually ended up finding her a couple of months after I put this post up. I thought she'd died in Buckie but she died in Aberdeen. Normally if they die in Aberdeen there is still a way it can be registered in Banffshire but I don't think hers was which was quite strange. I have it in my ancestry tree as 26th April 1962 at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, her husband died a couple of years later at the age of 88. I still find it bizarre that they were 1st cousins!

Thanks,

Greg

polarbear: I wasn't able to find an obituary, I suppose not everyone has one.

7200: It is excellent to make contact! My great-granda John Laing was a cousin of Doris and her siblings. I have sent you a message with questions if you don't mind, you can feel free to ask anything!

Thank You,

Greg

Banffshire / James Thomson b.1893 Buckie
« on: Saturday 24 November 12 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for a relative of mine that I'm rather confused about.

This relative, James Thomson, was born on 28th June 1893 at 59 Seatown, Buckie to George Thomson and Helen Cowie. Their usual residence was 1 Mid Street, Buckie.

I have found James Thomson in the 1901 census for Buckie, he was listed at 1 Mid Street with his siblings, parents and grandparents. I haven't been able to find the family in the 1911 census for some reason. His grandparents had died by then but his family still lived there as when his father died in 1917 the usual residence was 1 Mid Street.

I haven't been able to find anything about James Thomson aside from his birth and the 1901 census entry. I've searched ScotlandsPeople and I haven't been able to find anything, marriage or death, so I'm assuming that he left the country.

I would appreciate it greatly if someone could aid me in finding this mysterious person as I have no idea what ever happened to him. His other siblings all seemed to stay in Buckie apart from one brother who died down in Kent. I don't think he died down in England, but I suppose you never know. As long as I can get at least some information on him, even if he has went abroad.

Thank You  :)

I've hit a bit of a brick wall in trying to track down this couple from Buckie.  :-\

The husband, Walter McGeorge Smith, was born on 25th November 1894 at 4 Gordonsburgh, Buckie to Joseph Smith and Mary Ann Norrie
The wife, Williamina Thomson, was born on 6th October 1896 at 1 Mid Street, Buckie to William Thomson and Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith

I have both of them in the 1901 census as living with their families. In 1911 I'm assuming they'd still be with their families.

They married on 12th December 1919 at 1 Mid Street, Buckie. The only deceased parent was Joseph Smith (d. 1910).

Just twelve days later, Williamina gave birth to a daughter, Mary on 24th December 1919 at 1 Mid Street.

That is the last I have of them. I am trying to find what happened to them afterwards and when they died

I have no clue what happened to them afterwards, and I can't seem to find anything  ???

I have checked ScotlandsPeople for their deaths, I've included & left out Walter's middle name, I've put in the year & left it out yet I still can't find anything.

I'm not too sure if they had any children after Mary, I'll check when I'm next at the Register House. Smith is such a common name, so I can't exactly use the online version as there will be far too many.

I have considered the possibility that they have emigrated but I haven't been able to track down any evidence that supports that.

Williamina lost 4 brothers and sisters (died in infancy/childhood). She had a brother John that died at a Naval Hospital in Kent in 1918 and a sister Elizabeth who died in Inverness in 1978. Both of her parents died in 1 Mid Street and have been buried in Rathven Cemetery next to Buckie.

I would appreciate it greatly if someone could shed some light on this mystery family.
