Canada / Grave site for Herbert Hughes
« on: Wednesday 08 October 14 23:59 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the grave site of Herbert Hughes who died in Fort William Ontario on November 3, 1941. His wife was Annetta (Netti) Stevens. The 1940 census shows they are living at 433 Norah St. in Fort William. He was born on March 30, 1911 in Brampton, Ontario to James and Jane Hughes. Netti was from Clinton Ontario and I don't know when she died or where she was buried either.
If anyone has information on them I would appreciate it.

Yes you're correct, Lucinda is Frank's sister. I will have to check the Brittania Cemetery to see if Frank is buried there as it says that's where the Browns are buried.
I did see the picture of Miriam and the copy of their book. You've been a wealth of knowledge.
Thank you again.

Excellent work! Thank you all. Miriam Williams Brown was the sister of Ida Williams mother of Dorothy Hiscott who was the wife of my uncle Art Hill. She was also an aunt of Richard Hiscott as it was stated on his travel document and thanks to dbreeze1 for reading that correctly.
Art Hill was born and died  in Meadowvale Village where Frank Brown was born and lived, so there is a connection for Miriam and Frank. Thank you bbart for your find on the Teacher Registration Council and the link to the Meadowvale Book.
The 1871 and 1881 census has her name as Mary butthe 1871 census was taken on April 20th when she was 6 months old. Miriam was born on September 29, 1870, 6 months before the census date. Thanks to Sandra for the census and Craclyn for the find of Miriam as a teacher.
The only question is her name..from Mary to Miriam, but I think that can easily be explained. Her address on Tranby Ave. , her marriage to a man from Meadowville and her sister Ida are overwelming evidence that this is who is buried with my aunt and uncle.
One thing that does puzzle me is why wan't she buried with her husband and in the Meadowvale  Book it says that Frank had a daughter Lucinda who moved to the states.
A note on Art Hill. He was a banker by trade serving as Manager in Brampton Ontario and Windsor Ontario and maybe other places as well. He served in the First World War and fought at Vimy Ridge.
After the war he wrote a letter about his experience which I have put on his Ancestry page.
Thanks again to all of you for this great work on my behalf. I very much appreciate it and truly believe that this mystery is solved.

I may have found evidence that Brown may have been Miriam's married name. On a travel document to the states Dorththy Hiscott's brother lists a Mrs. M.W. Brown. Unfortunately I don't know why her name is on the document. This is not his wife and his wife's maiden name wasn't Brown.

Unfortunately I don't. My guess is that is her maiden name and
she wasn't married. But it is only a guess because there is no mention of a husband on her gravestone. She is buried in the grave with my great uncle Art Hill. He and his wife had no children. The other person in the plot is Marion Hiscott my uncle's wife's sister who was never  married. I remember going to my uncles often and there never was a Miriam Brown there.

I am looking for any information on Miriam W. Brown who was born on September 29, 1870 and died on October 26, 1946. She lived in Ontario Canada and is buried in Park Lawn Cemetery in Toronto with Art and Dorothy Hill  and Marion Hiscott. I believe she was living in Toronto in 1942 possibly at 68 Tranky or Tranby Ave.
