Only the 1861 Census says Heckington, agreed, but I think the 1851 one says London, of which I have copies of both.

It still does not mention any reason for his promotion, or his escape? ???

That link is for a woman born in London, and mine was born in Heckington, Lincs. :-\
One other piece of data I have come up with,: - William E Millners grand father was a Gainsborough Grocer, not a farmer or a blacksmith, sorry.
WEM's father was a local artist and taught others how to paint.
Cheers Tim.

Trying to get into the GREAT WAR FORUM, but they seem a little cautious?
It is a little strange that I have not heard of any other first WW escapees, have looked on the Web, even asked the Army Museum, very strange, will post a question on the WW 1 boards.
Cheers Tim.

World War One / Douglas C Millner Pvt Rangers 1915

Douglas join the 12th London Regiment the Ranger in 1915, where he was wounded, and taken prisoner by the Germans in France, in 1916 he escaped via Holland back to England, where he later joined the 9th London Regiment the Queen Victoria Rifle's QVR's, he was not allowed back to the front line, and by 1917 was promoted to Sec. Lieutenant, and a full Lieutentant by the end of the War.
My search and question is how did this happen, and where can i find out about his escape. Was it normal to get promoted from a private straight to an officer?

No mistake, think you should be reading it as Husband and Wife Wm. Millner married Anne of Heckington 1816 by lic. :o
They had 6 children, William b1819, Frederick Edwards, Robert Edwards, Ann, Charles Edwards b1830?, and Ellen.
Only 2 I can find are William and Charles who seems to have spent most of his life moving around the northern part of England, from Manchester to Notts, back to Gainsborough and then Sheffield and finally Driffield.
Do you know where Anne Millner b1792 can be found in 1851?
Still trying to find out what happened to Gertrude Esther Millner b1858, unable to find her death registered any where, (Ancestry or FreeBDM) still living in 1907.

That is part of the problem, have found out that William Millner (2 ll's) died in 1841, so might not have made the census.
Also on checking Ann's (my great Aunt) inclusion I am unable to find most of her children.
William Millner b1819 d1870 mrd 1847 Anne Edwards of Heckington
Frederick Edwards Millner died unknown,
Robert Edwards Millner died unknown,
Charles Edwards Millner born 1830ish died 1875 Yorks.
Ann Millner married? died unknown,
Ellen Millner married? died unknown.
Anne herself only turns up in the 1861 Gainsborough census living with her son William Millner, not sure where she is in 1851.

Have searched the Ancestry web site and their Pallot marriages/births up to 1837, but not one hit for my grand father William Millner, think he might have been a farmer, but the 1841 census is not a thing be to definitive.
He married my Great Aunt Ann Edwards in Heckington, so I wonder if he (william) had any brothers/sisters.
Have the same problem with a William Edwards of Heckington (Ann's father) where did he come from, and did he have any brothers/sisters?
Have all his children details, all 9 of them.
Cheers
