Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Ridout marriage Yeovil 1796
« on: Tuesday 30 May 06 00:05 BST (UK)  »
Dear All

Please can someone help me?

James RIDOUT married Susannah PARSONS at St John the Baptist Church in Yeovil on the 9th June 1796. The witnesses were two relatives of the bride, Ann and Maria PARSONS.

I very much need to see the parish register entry of this marriage because I want to compare the signature of James to other wills, deeds etc in order to see if he is a relative I am seeking.  Please, could anyone who regularly visits the RO (?Taunton) make a photocopy or scan and send me (or post) the image? I am happy to pay all reasonable expenses to achieve this. I live in Cardiff and have no opportunity to travel all the way to the record office to do this myself. I would be so immensely grateful. Please contact me and I will send my address, email etc.

Many thanks, Karen

Somerset Lookup Requests / TOWERS of Wincanton
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 22:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Listers

Please can someone help me with these two births/baptisms in Wincanton? They are brother and sister and I really need to find their parents to forge a link between them and my family.... their birth dates are computed from the 1841, 51 and 61 censuses...

William TOWERS born between 7th April 1824 and 7th June 1825

Jane TOWERS born between 30th March 1822 and 7th June 1825

Thanks for looking!
Cheers, Karen

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Bath directories
« on: Saturday 04 March 06 20:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Bath Library holds a number of street and/or trade directories on the shelves, starting at about 1837 but, if you ask nicely, they do have some rather more crumbly older directories which you can see. I have looked at these and, fortunately, although I did not find anyone, I listed the years available which are... 1784  1787  1791-8  1800  1812  1829  1830  1833... so the answer to your question is YES!

Dorset / Re: Marriages for Blandford

Hi

Not wishing to spread alaram and despondency - BUT  - weren't there issues about Blandford records having been destroyed at some point? I think  that's why there is so little info on the OPC site. I stress  I may be wrong!

Cheers, Karen

Hi Dave

Many many thanks, again, for your assisstance. My theory came to nothing re the possibilities of family living next door. Still, in this village and having those neighbours it's not hard to see why a young Austin became a farrier/smith. It's nice to have even that little snippet of background so thanks again!

Cheers, Karen

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Austin JARVIS - lookup 1841 please - COMPLETED

Hi Dave

Ah - perhaps you shouldn't have mentioned the neighbours ;D

At the risk of bringing down the wrath of a Francis, you couldn't tell me the names of the neighbours i.e. the farrier and the blacksmith could you - pretty please? You never know, but I think sometimes these tidbits help you make links between family and in-laws etc. If it's too much of a drag then don't bother but if you have a moment I would be grateful.

Cheers brother Francis

Hi Dave

I note you are a Francis too, like me. My father's family came from North Trowbridge (I think) and had loads of farms - can't recall all the names - Kellaways, Home, Druces.are all I remember but there may have been more. Anyway, we may be related if you're local to Wiltshire  ;)

That aside - many, many thanks for doing this look-up. It certainly looks like my family. Austin Junior would be my great-grandmother Ada Jarvis's father. Ada Jarvis was the wife of my maternal great-grandfather so heaven knows how many 'greats' William is, I lose count. Very happy to have this information.

Thanks again, Karen
