John Buchan McLean was my grandfather who died a year before l was born, was appointed Coxswain of Peterhead lifeboat          "Julia Park Barry" from July 1937 to December 1954. I do remember my mother telling me that my grandfather would only take on the role as Peterhead's Coxswain if he was paid a wage. I know that this wasn't normally common practice. But during the 17 years that he was Coxswain he didn't have any other employments. My query is what sort of a wages would R.N.L.I  paid him?

Hello to you all up in the Bloo toon.
John Buchan McLean, Peterhead's only coxswain was awarded the gold medal, who died 55 years ago on the 9th Jan 1956. Does anyone remember or know if any photos were taken that very day of the coffin being driven along the route from Lodge walk to Constitution street cemetery. I would very much love to hear from you.

Thank you for your interest. Timescale is 1870s to 1920s approx. Also properties appear to have been heavily refurbished, when was this?

Hope there is someone who can help……………….. :) :) :)
Doing my family research, I’ve become aware of a number of my ancestors lived in and around High street, Buchanhaven, Peterhead. Is there anyway of finding out the history of these buildings and would the numbers on the houses today be the same in days gone by.

Hi all......

I'm popping up to Campbeltown in June 2011. I have the details required to locate my ancestors in Kilkerran cemetery. Could anyone suggest where I could obtain a copy of the layout to make life easier to locate the headstones or plots the old & new cemeteries, as I'll only be there for 48hrs.

Hi all................... Can anyone help????
I have a copy of a 1875 death certificate of my 2x great Grandfather with a question mark on the cause of death. I would like to know how common this was in the 19th century and how can a person be buried without a cause of death? For all I know he could have been murdered.......!
