i know on the 1939 census there still in ireland and i believe they may of came over for a wedding in 1945 and settled in lancaster.

they didnt have any more children when they moved over here.

afternoon all,

thank you for the replys....coming to think of the possibilitys youse have put my way it might be because his death was so tragic it touched the heart of his community and yes it was his local church as my mother and aunty attended the school when they was children and considering william had 12 children of his own they probably atended the school also.

when the news of his accident broke family and friends tried to get william out but couldnt reach him and when he was pulled out his mother collapsed and she passed 5 days later so they are both berid together.

william murtagh was berid alive in 1965 when the trench he was working on caved in.he was irish and his coffin was carried in accordance through the streets of lancaster on the friday where he lay in state till his funeral the next morning.

he had spent some time in the navy but that wouldnt give him the right to lay in state would it?

hi all

im wondrering if some body could tell me why a person would be berid in the grounds also why somebody would lay in state there please.... the person wasnt a vicor nun etc so im confused as to why he would of been berid there.

 i did think that as the article stated she lived with her son who passed and he was married but the information i had was that margaret had a sister named mary,turns out mary was in fact her daughter lol one daughter down one to go x
