I dont think so, but i will check and get back to you,

Hi,

My grandmother is from Listowel and her name was Sheena Walsh, so I suspect there might be a distant connection.
Do you have any info?

Rory Carrick

William Walsh and Eleanor (nee O'Brien) had a few children in Listowel in the early 1800s, some of whom left the area in the 1840s. Some of their children are listed in " irishgenealogy.ie"  . I don't have any information about them, as I am descended from their son Patrick who married Mary Connell and moved to the Channel islands.
So although I know that the family came from Listowel I cant go ny further without a townland. I have been told that there were lots of walsh families on the area,  do you have any idea where I might find more about this particular branch of the walshes? Do you have a line back from Sheena Walsh?

cheers,
Cathy

Thanks very much to you both for your responses.
Yes I have tried the Clare library resources, and some of the irish newspapers from the state library of Victoria site. But i will try to get the Clare Journal, a nice excuse to pop upto Canberra maybe!

Cheers,

Hi,

I was just wondering your Great Great Grandmother Eliza Jane McConnell.... Did she marry a Gray and had a child called Eliza Gray (born around 1860/61)? Eliza Gray was born in Derriaghy

Hi, you may have the wrong person, I dont have McConnell in my family. Must be someone else,
Cathy

Ireland / Re: How were the circumstances of "lunatics" managed in 1840s Ireland?
« on: Saturday 15 June 13 09:34 BST (UK)  »
I think this is the type of material http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=C3743

My limited understanding is that the Court of Chancery was responsible for this. If a person was suspected of being a 'lunatic' an inquiry was held. If the person was declared a 'lunatic' a Committee was appointed to look after their affairs (the estate). The Committee could just be one person. This UK National Archives link mentions that it has copies of some Irish material. Not sure if the Irish National Archives or PRONI might have the original (if it still exists) but these would probably be the places to try first.
Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately after  i sent enquiries, I received replies from the Irish national archives, proni and the kew archives, all negative.  So i'm not too hopeful of finding anything now.

It was passed on by a friend of a friend many years ago.
I originally dismissed it,  but have just found it again and thought it was worth a shot on rootschat, although I share your doubts.  Does Leth-Mecklin ring any bells?
Any ideas welcome,
Thanks,
