Would be worth checking out local war memorial(s) and rolls of honour (church, school, etc.) to see if any are listed as having served.

Good Idea Cheers

The reason I ask this question is because I am unable to trace any service records for any of my grandfathers/great grandfathers or Uncles ....

David John Thomas - paternal grandfather - 1911 Census - Age 21 - Draper's Assistant
William Merritt Watts - great grandfather - 1911 Census - Age 34 - Coal Miner Hewer
Alfred Craggs -  great grandfather - left for Canada 1910 - Age: 23 - Boilersmith

William Thomas - grand uncle - 1911 Census - Age: 19 - Masons Labourer

Joseph Britton Eaton -  grand uncle - 1911 Census - Age 29 - Quaryman Whinstone
Albert Frank Eaton -  - grand uncle - 1911 Census - Age 27 - Quaryman Whinstone

Lenoard Margeston Eaton -  grand uncle - only one I have found who served - ( 4th Battalion Yorkshire Regiment & 15th Battalion. ( Home Service)  Queen's Own.  R.D.C. - Wounded in France shrapnel in his Back awarded the Silver War Badge

John Thomas - great grandfather -  1911 Census - Age: 54 - Masons Labourer ( may have been over standard age range )

Cecil Knudson -  maternal grandfather - underage as he was only 7 in 1914 and died pre WW2
Lars Jacob Knudson - great grandfather - died pre WW1

I am sure there must have been more enlistments but unable to locate any records so any guidance would be appreciated

Best Regards Ron

thank you all for your quick responses ...

Florance May's Father was William Merritt Watts ... a name I have mentioned in previous posts and had some great feedback on although her mother Elizabeth Anne Thomas still remains a mystery
William came back from america with a pocket full of gold but possibly without elizabeth as she may have died before his return and bought the Maltsters Arms. Pentregethin Road Swansea he remarried in 1925 and died in 1926 .. I found the 1911 census with William listed as a Coal Miner Hewer living at Raven House Fforest Fach Swansea and Florence aged 4

New information I never knew of re Albert .. Married McGEE which is not a name I have ever come across before

I have the 1911 census reports for both Martha and her husband Joseph Eaton who is recorded as living alone at the bungalows, Great Ayton and lots of information regarding other members of my secondary Eaton family i.e cousins and 2nd cousins but nothing on Albert, Rose and Joseph Britton as individuals - so a very strong interest in finding out more

The boys must have gone into military service at some point like Leonard ( I have a very strong liking to finding military connections ) - as they must have been fit and strong and within age range regards there job descriptions " Quarrymen" so this is a frustration brickwall

Irene Melva Craggs is my Grandmother so know various things about her life and her father Alfred Craggs who allegedly is a french Canadian but have not beeen able to find any true evidence I have no more information on other than he is listed as being a Boilersmith on his marriage cert

A polite introduction ...

Hi my name is Ron and have researched my family tree for approximately 4 years and have found numerous branches of my ancestors

Although I am from Middlesbrough I now live in Durham and have interests in Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Stokesley and Great Ayton and have traced my Eaton family back to my 5th great grandfather John Eaton born 1764 in Woodford, Northamptonshire

My 3rd great grand uncle Joseph Moss Eaton even gets a mention in William Lillie’s Book "History of Middlesbrough" 1968 so would be interested in finding out where best to continue and would appreciate any help and guidance

the following names are my great uncles and have found it difficult to find much information on although I have found Military records for Leonard

Joseph Britton Eaton 1881 – 1968
Rose Ethel Eaton 1882 – 1949 ..... My Grandmother
Albert Frank Eaton 1884 –
Leonard Margeston Eaton 1895 – 1975

Best Regards Ron

Elizabeth Ann Thomas - Who was her Mother and where did she come from

The Brickwall to beat all Brickwalls ...... Possibly

Elizabeth Ann Thomas Married William Merritt Watts 13 June 1906 aged 21 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales, and lived at 7 Station Road Senghenydd, Caerphilly, Wales
Her Father was Thomas David Thomas ( Deceased ) and was a Carpenter - Information taken from Marriage Cert

I also believe she died when she went to America ( Nebraska ) with William Merrit around 1916
( no real confirmation just family Conversation ) William Merritt returned to Swansea and remarried in 1925

So just to clarify i'm looking for a Thomas who married a Watts who's father was called Thomas and her husband called William in Wales, no wonder i'm stuggling
