Thanks Jim, thats a surprise. The 1st 2 are my Nana Gertrude, she was born in 1882 so she would be late 40's early 50's in the photo's. Must say i thought she looked younger. The other is my Dad Richard Leaver Redman, he was born in 1906 and died in 1973 when i was 6. We thought the photo might have been taken about his 21st birthday (1927), but early 1920's would make him about 16. My Mum wasn't born till 1925, and they didn't marry till 1947 so she dosen't know anything about when they would have been taken. Were 18th birthdays anything special in the 1920's, or is that just a modern thing? Thanks again for the dates. Regards Maxine.

Graveyards and Gravestones / great grandads grave
« on: Sunday 03 July 11 14:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi, We are looking for the grave of our great grandad, Michael Masterson who died in 1911. He was buried in Longton cemetery in Stoke-on-trent. After making a phone call to the bereavement office, i was told i would need to go to Hanley libary to search the records. I found the entry and had it printed out, and it gave the number of grave space (11577). Our problem is how do we know where to look for the grave space, as we have no idea in which section of the cemetery it would be. There is a map at the gates of the cemetery showing all the plots (10 rows of 20 graves in each plot). Do we just have to work out which plot would have grave space 11577, there is never anyone working or around to ask when we go down. He was born in Dublin, and was Roman Catholic but have looked in that section and could not find it. Hope someone might have any ideas of where to go from here. Many thanks in advance. Regards Maxine.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / What year

Hi, Please could anyone help to date these photos, we don't know who they are other than they are relations of Edith Nicklin (nee Need) born 1915 Staffs. We think they are from the Need side of the family, as they were with Edith's belongings after she died. The possibilites we have are her mother Annie Clewlow born 1895-1980, grandmother (maternal) Annie Copestake born 1868-1951 and grandmother (paternal) Louisa(Sissy) Need maiden name unknown 1871-1922. We are also unsure if the woman in the white blouse, is the same woman in the other photo, and wheather it would be a sister or her mother with her. Whoever she is she looks exactly like my niece Melanie who was born in 1973, hence wanting to put names to faces. They are both postcards, the 1 with 2 women was taken by I Powler's studios, Longton, Shelton & Newcastle. The other by Stafford Studio Co, 1 Gold St, Stafford St, Longton. There is also some writing on the back, which we cannot make out. Many thanks to anyone who can help. Regards Maxine.
