Jab24. Just noticed your Topic.

I too, am looking for Moore in Dundalk, some time later though. My father JAMES THOMAS MOORE was born Dundalk 1900. His father also James, born circa 1865,(birthplace unknown) gave his address in 1900 as Dundalk Military Barracks. The only other information I have is that his address as given in 1897 was Cahir Barracks, Tipperary.

A log shot I know, but does this tie with any information you have. I am becoming desperate.

Thank you  Alan

I do not have anything specific to Purnell's of Bristol, however you may like to check out developing web pages - Purnell's of Hampshire

Happy to include your tree - who knows there could be a link.

Thanks again for your help and interest.

My wife (Chris) and I hope to visit England soon. I think one of our first stops will be to the cemetery at Forest Gate and try and locate a grave and/or investigate cemetery records. From here it looks as if that is going to be our best and only start point.

It would appear no family members, that we are in contact with, have kept any Birth Certificates, obviously not aware of their value.

In the meantime we just have to hope some other leads come to light.
Will let you know immediately should that occur.

Thanks again,
Regards

Thank you for you interest in my plight.

Unfortunately nothing is definite at this stage. I did make an error with the year of death, believe it is 1936. Though I have a photo of a gravestone the actual date is obscured by flowers.

We are confident that James Henry Edmonds and James Henry Knight were the same person. Photos of him with the Knight family compared to the Edmonds family photo are quite conclusive.

At this stage all of our information is only from family recollections and they unfortunately are very vague. It appears there were 2 families and at least for the latter part of his life he lived with Ada Knight (Walthamstow)and probably for the sake of propriety assumed the name of Knight, at least for the benefit of people around him at that time. It is said that as a Catholic he could not formally separate from his legitimate family. It seems that both parties knew about each other and there does not seem to have been any anomosity. We can only guess that it may have been left to M/s Knight to bury him and she  chose to use his AKA name to save face, and he was buried as James Henry Knight.

As you have undoubtedly noticed Rootschat Member EDO has been offering his assistance and as my inquiry originated in Australia he anticipated at the time that there may have been an Australian connection. That would have made things much easier but alas that's not the case.

Census searches have really not been of any help as we cannot isolate any results with any certainty. Neither can we find any trace of Ada Knight.

Although the Knight family came from London, East End we have no clues as to a location for the Edmonds family.

Still very sketchy I'm affraid and a little bizzare but thats all we have at the moment. Who knows, we may strike lucky and somebody out there recognize the photo. However in the meantime, open to any suggestions and happy to follow up on the slimmest of leads.

We are not giving up yet.

Thank you for your assistance,
Cheers now

Thanks for all your interest and information.

You may understand the confusion when I say that there was never any marriage. Children (at least 6) all had their mothers name. Only one still surviving but well into 80's and somewhat confused.

James Henry, as far as we can establish, was even buried under the name KNIGHT, Forrest Gate, London, 1935. There were no known Australian connections at that time.

The photo, we believe, is of his 'legitimate' family. What is it they say about Travelling Salesmen?
Posting the photo has been a real shot in the dark but we hoped it might rattle a few skeletons (from the closet).

Have found several James Edmonds on 1901 census but cannot confidently isolate any one of them.

Not ready to give up just yet. I have also posted my message to England/ General/unspecified county.

Thanks again

Allan

Thanks for the tip but unfortunately cannot see anything there to give me a starter.
Have more photos but not sure that they give any more clues either.
James Henry was my wife's paternal Grandfather, but he still remains a total mystery!!!
