Hi Merv

Your very welcome. Its nice to be able to help out instead of asking for help all the time which I do often.
I haven't come across any of my lot in Ashkirk but there's still time.
I hope you might find some of your Scott's in the book there is a index at the back which tells you which pages individual people and places are so you don't have to read it all if you don't want to.
I am directly descended from the Amos family Colliforthill Blackcleughmouth branch on my mums side so got loads of info from the book.
Any way happy hunting.

Lesley.

Weens house is on the B6357 traveling east towards Jedburgh. so am assuming weens cottage will be near the big house
there is a cottage on the road side behind weens house but cant remember its name.
I used to live at Gatehousecote a bit further up the hill, I am a Scott too. hobkirk is part of bonchester not sure where bonchester ends and hobkirk begins but the church is hobkirk church.

Have you come across this book

http://www.turnbullclan.com/publications/rulewater_and_its_people_index.htm

There are Scotts in there not mine unfortunately
My line started with Robert Scott 1770 and Betty Renwick 1760

Hi Ken
This is the page where the info starts and there are two pages after it.
As I said he may have gone under a different name the names my Nana mentioned were ward & warden but dint know how much truth is attached to this.
Also I worked out from the age on the papers that he would have been born July 1876 would you agree with this?
Yet from his marriage cert he give his age as 23 which would make his birth year 1874!!!

Armed Forces / East Lancs Regiment
« on: Thursday 18 March 10 20:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Just downloaded my grt Grandfathers military records from Ancestry and it says he was in the east lancs regiment sometime (don't know when) before he joined up in April 1915.

His name when he joined up in Edinburgh was Charles Walton though I'm not sure if this is his real name. ???

I have his marriage cert & I know where he was from 1897 till about 1940.
But cant seem to track him down before or after. On the census he has place of birth England (very helpful)

was wondering if there would be anyway of tracing him through the East Lancs regiment  ???

I can't trace him through his parents (George Walton master mason Mary Walton ms Calashaw) according to marriage cert. My Nana told me he was the black sheep of a well to do family and that he was thrown out by his father and changed his name when he got to Scotland.

Any help would be appreciated Thankyou

Lesley

Roxburghshire / Disappearance of Agnes Morton
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

Agnes Morton was born at Commonside in 1861 she was the illegitimate daughter of Betty Morton, she was 2 months old on the 1861 census.

In1871 she was 10 yrs old and living at Todshawhaugh Cottages Roberton with her mother Elizabeth Grandmother Agnes, aunt bella and brother David (he was Foster also Illegitimate).

She then disappears no trace of a marriage or death and no trace on censuses.
Where has she gone ???

Thanks Lesley
