Dear Monica,

Perhaps Alexander Laurie is a sibling of Catherine and Mary Laurie.  This is exciting, as we have not been able to find any evidence of other children.

Peter Laurie and Mary McNiel Laurie, have been our toughest nut to crack.  Can't find their births.  We do have a copy of the OPR showing their marriage in Tynron, but, of course the OPR does not give any extra info, such as their age, parents' names, etc.

Catherine Laurie married Robert Grierson in 1855.  The 1861 Census shows Mary Laurie living with them in Glasgow.

We appreciate your help.  Thank you, Bonnie Lassie on Florida's Spacecoast.

Dear Monica,

We had accessed that website.  We had not, however, found Catherine Lawrie/Laurie.  Thank you very much for your help.  Best Wishes, Bonnie Lassie

Looking for Peter LAURIE/LAWRIE and his wife Mary MCNIEL.  They were married in Tynron Dumfriesshire in 1823.  We know they had two daughter, Catherine LAURIE born abt 1834 in Sanguhar and Mary born abt 1836 also in Sanquhar.  We have not been able to find the birth records for either daughter.

Peter LAURIE was a shepherd.  The OPR record shows his birth place as Dalmakerran and Mary's as Glencairn. We have searched the 1851 Census on Scotland's People, but no sign of either Peter or our Mary.  They may possibly be in the 1841 Census.

Mary LAURIE, their daughter married Archibald McMILLAN in 1875 in Glasgow.  Archibald was also born in Sanquhar between 1837 and 1840, but again we cannot locate his birth record.  His parents were Robert MC MILLAN and Christian MC CALL.

We don't know if the LAURIE's had more children, or if they died at a fairly young age.  Any suggestions as to how we can delve further into, what has been up till now, a futile search.   Best Wishes, Bonnie Lassie

Dear Harribob and Kev,

Their are six Robert Cunninghams on the page.  The sixth appears to be our Robert.  Robert was born in Plantation/Govan in 1886.  He was 31 years of age when he was killed in June 1917.

This is what appears on his card:

Name                     Corps.                 Rank        Regiment No.
________________________________________________

CUNNINGHAM     Liverpool Royal       Pvt.         Reg. #356852
Robert
________________________________________________

Medal                     Roll                       Page
________________________________________________

Victory                  H/2/102-49             8159
British                   ____do___           _____

Hopefully you can make sense of this information.

Thank you, Bonnie Lassis

Dear Kev,

We downloaded the WW1 Record for Robert Norval Cunningham.  There are six separate cards with his name on them, which was quite exciting to view.

We are not quite sure what the numbers appearing on each card means (on the line below his name).  If they represent the numbers of each medal, he received,  how do we go about corresponding the number with the actual medal (pictures, etc.).

One card show service at Hooge between 1914-1915.

Hope this doesn't sound like too dumb a question, but the Military aspect is a new dimension, for us, in our genealogical quest.

Best Wishes,
Bonnie Lassie

Dear Kev,

Thank you so much for directing us to the proper websites.  We have printed out the Archive Information on the first Robert Norval Cunningham -- WW1, and have accessed the RCAF Website for our cousin, the second Robert Norval Cunningham.

At the beginning of WW11, for us, here in the US - Robert Norval CUNNINGHAM  tried to join the US Army.  He was not a US Citizen, having been born in Scotland, and decided to join the RCAF.

We appreciate your taking the time to aid us in this quest to know more about our family members.

Best Wishes,
Bonnie Lassie

World War One / CUNNINGHAM - WW1
« on: Monday 09 January 06 22:13 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for information regarding naval service for our uncle, George CUNNINGHAM -- born in Kinning Park in 1900.  It is our understanding that he served as a seaman in WW1. He lived into his 80's.

Also seeking more information on his uncle, Robert Norval CUNNINGHAM, who was a Private during WW1 in the Liverpool Regiment.  Robert died in Belgium in 1917 at the age of 31.  We have some info from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, but know nothing of his Army career such as medals, etc.

Uncle George's son, also named Robert Norval CUNNINGHAM
was killed on May 11, 1944.  He was a Sergeant in the RCAF, attached to the RAF and flew as a gunner out of Skellingthorpe Air Base.  The crew's lancaster aircraft was shot down over Belgium.  Both Robert Norval CUNNINGHAMS', are buried in cemeteries, in Belgium, about 10 miles apart.

Any suggestions as to how we can find Uncle George's service record, and his uncle's during WW1, will be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Bonnie Lassie - Florida
