Hi, Definitely sounds promising. I have a John McLaren born abt 1828 in Grangemouth (son of William McLaren and Jean Watt) but I don't have a wife for him yet. Do you have any more details on his wife or the names of their children?

Thanks

Sue

Hi Melissa

Thanks so much. I have checked out this John Grant but unfortunately no joy! I have however found a Nathaniel Burns born in Kirenny Fife whose parents were a David Burns and an Elizabeth and who shows up listed as lodger on the 1851 census (perhaps implying he wasn't a blood relative of David Burns?)

I'm investigating further!

Thanks again for taking the time to look him up for me

Sue

Hi

I have got very stuck and am hoping that someone might be able to help! I have a John Burns Grant born abt 1842 in Kirkcaldy (from the 1871 census). He married a Mary Jane Chapman in Plymouth, Devon in 1870, but using the name of Nathaniel Burns??
John and Mary Jane then moved to Cambusnethan, near Wishaw in 1871. He died there in 1877 and his death certificate states that  his parents were a David Grant and an Elizabeth. Has anyone any clues to where I go from here?

Thanks lots

Sue

Hi Andy

My gx5 grandmother was a Margaret Millar Denholm born in Innerwick (I think) in 1754.She married  a James Gibson in 1773 in Coylton. I know she was the daughter of a James Denholm and Agnes Hunter but would love to know more if she fits into your line anywhere?

Sorry Macduff, I've just checked the death certificate and the asylum is listed as being in Byrndie (difficult to make out, I think that's what is says?) Does this make sense? It is also referred to as Banff District Asylum.

Thanks

Sue
