Hi,
The DOB is from the 'findagrave' website. It lists the children, and the names match.
I have now found a birth record which shows an Angus MacKay born to a James MacKay from Golspy, on 22nd May 1763. No sign of who the mother was though.

On Angus' death record from 1837 it says "Angus MacKay (Baillie)" and on his daughter's death record in 1838, it says "Janet MacKay (Bailie)".

Could 'Baillie' be a Mother's Maiden name? Or does it have a meaning that I am unaware of?? Any help appreciated...Does anyone know what it means??  :)

Hi,
I have hit yet another wall. Am trying to find info on the parents of an...
Angus Mackay
B: 22 MAY 1763 in Achavandra, Skelbo, Dornoch,Sutherland, Scotland
D: 13 Nov 1837 in Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland
I believe that he was married to a Helen MacKenzie 28th Feb 1794.

Any help to find the names of his parents would be much appreciated!!  :)

The BMD record shows Ferdinand Whittaker Lilley marriage to Ethel Shipway in Eastbourne in 1904. I have seen the marriage certificate some time ago and know the church where the wedding was said to have taken place. I have now found a record on the 'select marriage' records on Ancestry that shows a Ferdinand Whittaker Lilley marriage to Ethel Shipway in 1904 in Great Berkhampstead, Hertford.
Looking again at the dates, they are not too far apart the BMD says Jan, but means Jan/Feb/March and the 'select record says date of marriage 28th Feb 1904. I'm still not sure why the records would put the marriages in two different places?

The Lighter Side / Just a general question

Hi,
I have recently found marriage records for my great grandparents. They appear to have married twice in the same year, in different places. Is this even possible? I have a BMD record for their marriage on the South coast of England in 1904, and then I have a 'select marriage' record for their marriage in Hertfordshire, later that year. My great grandfather had quite an unusual name, so I don't think that the two different records are just different couples. I am hoping that someone may have knowledge that will make up for my ignorance in this.
How are 'select marriage' records different from the BMD marriage index record?
Can people 'marry again' in a different place? I believe both to have been church weddings, so am a little confused. (I believe that their first son was born 6months after their first wedding, so they may have needed a 'quick' marriage, and then followed it up with a 'proper' wedding, but it all seems a little strange.)
Any knowledge about this would be much appreciated.  :)

Walter Gordon Beecroft was her nephew, so I'm guessing Wolverhampton probate fits in nicely. Although, how she ended up there baffles me! Great detective work Ray. Thanks to all for your help!! :)

I'm not sure Treetotal. In the 1911 census, she is living in 'Como Road, Forest Hill, Lewisham'. This is the same address as her husbands probate in 1943. I can't find any connection to Buckinghamshire through her children. I guess that she may have moved after his death, but am not sure how I could confirm the information as being her.
Thank you for your efforts.  :)
