Trying to find if a (*) b1948 once married to Roger Ian Gisborne b1945 ever divorced or remarried. It would have most likely been in Leicester, not sure how to find Divorce records?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looking at all the facts now - I don't - I think it's a wild goosechase. I actually haven't even found anything concrete that ties Samuel James to anything previous to his marriage and knowing that his fathers name is also Samuel on the marriage records. I'm Stuck!

I am at a bit of a dead end as I've found children of Ann Jane & Jas Abernethy - Mary Ann b. 1835 then Sarah 1838 and then other children Eliza James John Susanna and Samuel. These all appear on the 1851 census with the exception of Susanna and Samuel who were born in 1852 & 56. I have found baptism records for all of these in Aghalee, Antrim and parents are listed as Ann Jane & Jas Abernethy.   So I'm struggling to see how so many people on message boards etc say that Ann Jane & Jas went to Canada with two eldest daughters which must've meant they left the rest of their family here.

I don't seem to be able to find passage of Jas & Ann Jane Abernethy on their own or with daughters in any Shipping Passenger lists. Their youngest son wasn't born until 1856 in Aghalee so they can't have left before then. The youngest son (Samuel) married in 1877 in Arlecdon so obviously he came over to England at some point. ANY Help would be very much appreciated.

Thank You, found the family on the 1851 - I see the girl aged 9 a servant also Sarah Abernethy, but they already had a Sarah Abernethy on their family group age 12 - absent from the house - Nursing in Antrim, her older sister is listed as doing the same, Mary Ann, Aged 14 - Do you have an idea why they would be Nursing in Antrim at that time? Their Mother Ann Jane is listed as a nurse but she is at home. Thanks

Antrim / JAS ABERNETHY (Antrim, Ireland) PASSAGE TO CANADA POST 1856 ??

I am trying to ascertain when Jas Abernethy (JAMES) b. Ballinderry, Antrim 1811 suppposedly went to Canada?? Must have been after 1856 because his youngest son Samuel wasn't born until 1856 in Aghalee, Antrim. His wife was Ann Jane Ferguson b.Ireland 1851.

The family appears on the 1851 census in Ireland all in Aghalee, Antrim but I can't find them on an 1861 census  - Can anyone tell me when the next Irish census would have been after the 1851?

Yes that's where I saw it - I think I am going to disregard the Magee thing for now as it doesn't appear on any formal record either in Ireland or England.  I am going to post a further message to ascertain when Jas Abernethy (Samuels Grandfather) suppposedly went to Canada?? Must have been after 1856 because Samuels father (also Samuel) wasn't born until 1856 in Aghalee, Antrim. Many Thanks.

Guys, Sorry my mistake her name is listed as Eliza Abernethy Magee on a Family Group List on the church of the latter day saints site, not baptism records, that's the only thing that's throwing me really apart from this all the other factors point to Eliza/beth Downie/ey.

Just want to say your responses have been really helpful and encouraging!

Think I will need to get the Marriage Certificate of Samuel Abernethy and Elizabeth Downie/ey and see if Samuels parents tally up.  (warcoort - the england & wales baptism records showed eliza abernethy 'magee' listed as mother). Think I'll see if the Downeys settled in Arlecdon/Frizington as I have her fathers name.

Well I found a Samuel Abernethy marriage to Elizabeth Downie in Arlecdon 1877 one year before the first child was born in Arlecdon in 1878 , but not to Eliza/beth Magee which is the name on the childrens Baptism Records - very confusing!
