Several years later .....   :-[

Have just found Mary Ann Reed on Ancestry.  Her mother was Annie Brooks c 1866.

Interestingly enough there is a story that there is Irish ancestry in our family tree somewhere.  I haven't found it yet though!

I have Kents in my tree and I see you have Surrey in your areas.  I don't have the names with same dob in my tree nor a Robin but if there is a possible connection I could contact Robin Kent with a genuine reason of my own as well as yours.

Are your Kents in the Croydon, Mersham, Bletchingley area?

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Guernsey Death - Finished, thanks
« on: Friday 15 August 08 17:14 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying for some time to help my aunt find the family history of her stepfather, William Frederick Cooke, who raised her.  I think I have found him on census but need dates confirmed by getting a copy of his death certificate.

My Mum recently found a newspaper cutting which if dated correctly would give his date of death as 1st August 1956  - it has a handwritten date on it of 2/8/56 and the article says 'died suddenly yesterday morning'.  He died while on holiday while shopping in Pollett Street.

I can't work out how to attach the newspaper cutting as when I click on 'attach an image' it just shows tick boxes for notifying me of replies, return to topic and using smilies  :-[

Any help would be much appreciated.  Do I need a reference to get a copy of the certificate?  If so can anyone help by looking up the death as I only have access to UK records?  My aunt hasn't been well recently and this would make her year.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help

(also Lemontina was a cousin or something)

Hi.  I have this name in my family.  Lemontina/Lemintina/Lemontaine crops up in the Gardner and Smith families.

Is the Robert Penfold you mention on the 1901 census born 1863 and married to Mary Ann (1865) children Emily, William, John, Rose & James?  They are at 19 Wilford Rd, Croydon.  Robert is a Hawker.

May not be the same ones.  The ones above are related to the Lanes, Smiths, Gardners etc. but not sure about the Williams.

Hi Deb

I noticed Miss Jano's post.  Her, I and one other are tracing the Gardners/Penfolds/Smiths/Lanes etc of Kent/Surrey and together have pooled quite a bit of information.   My direct relatives are Gardners but they married into the Penfolds, Smiths, Lanes etc.

We know a Gardner migrated to Australia through someone contacting from there so are sharing information there also.

If you want to share research also do pm either me or Miss Jano  ;D  We email each other in a group when we've found anything which is very helpful!

Hi
If your interested in Dullaway/Dellaway etc, check out my web site. I have been reaserching my name (Dullaway) for 10 years now.

Great site thanks.   I have bookmarked it for future browsing when I have a bit more time.

I have a Henry Dallaway 1832 Croydon in my tree.  He married Jane Strudwick (1832 Mitcham) in 1856 who was the mother of Elizabeth Strudwick (1854).  I have assumed Jane was previously married but Elizabeth names Henry as her father on her marriage certificate so maybe he was the father not step father.  Elizabeth Strudwick  is my great great grandmother.

Henry and Jane had 4 other children that I know of all surname Dallaway (according to census) - Henry 1857, Rich 1860, Adelaide 1865 and 'Jno' 1869 all born Croydon.

I think anyone who was considered to be a 'burden on the parish' could be removed.
